EMPLOYMENT: 230 days SELECTION: The position is filled by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools. The applicant must demonstrate a knowledge and an ability to successfully implement the high school educational curricular and co-curricular programs including High Schools That Work, North Central Accreditation, Secondary Schools Activities Commission Programs. Responsible Students Program and Special Education Programs. The person selected will be the chair of SAT's, 504 Review Committee, IEP Committee and Students at Risk Committee along with all other duties. The applicant must demonstrate leadership skills and be able to deliver developmentally appropriate services to students in all areas, especially school discipline. The applicant will be required to work with school parent booster organizations, school partnerhips, and the community. Interview performance: Applicant will be evaluated on his/her ability to respond to practical situations related to High schools which will be presented during the interview. QUALIFICATIONS: Have secondary teaching experience in grades 9-12 preferred. Have a valid West Virginia Principal's certificate for the applicable grades. Provide examples of knowledge and/or experience of successful administrative skills. Provide examples of ability to write clearly and concisely with correct grammar and spelling. Demonstrate ability to manage effectively a comprehensive program of student behavior. Demonstrate capability to review current trends and research and apply to the learning setting. Provide examples of knowledge and/or experience in observing and reviewing with teachers their performance in instruction and classroom management. Provide examples of knowledge and/or experience in assessing the needs of a school, evaluating the effectiveness of school practice, developing school improvement plans, and setting goals. Provide examples of knowledge of holding staff meetings, assigning staff responsibilities, analyzing school personnel needs and arranging for staff development training. Demonstrate how an effective working relationship among administration, teachers, and parents leads to improved learning. Provide examples of procedures to use in working with community groups and agencies that deal with various aspects of student services. Understand and interpret test data in order to improve student learning via curriculum development. Provide examples of training and experience in innovative ideas that would lead to successful employment as a principal. Possess an additional combination of training and experience which would lead to successful employment as an assistant principal at the secondary level. FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Assists in supervising the school's educational program. Assists in assuming the responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school's staff and students. Assumes the responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant as delegated by the principal. Assumes the responsibility of the school in the absence of the principal. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary according to due process to the rights of students. Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with Board policy. Assists in assuming responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of students. Assists in the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students as well as other record keeping functions as the principal may direct. Acts as liaison between the school and the community. Functions as the athletic director in administering the overall program of extra-curricular athletics, both intramural and interscholastic. Supervises, at the direction of the principal, athletic coaches and staff members in the conduct of their extra-curricular activities. Conducts one's self in a positive professional manner at all times in order to enhance good public relations, foster loyalty, good ethics, and cooperation with all personnel. Assist the principal in evaluation and counseling staff members regarding their individual and group performance. Aid parent, faculty and student groups as requested in advancing educational and relative activities and objectives. Assist in providing instructional leadership and support within the school buildings. Assist in creating a climate conducive to teaching and learning. Assist in implementing a system to monitor student progress. Assist in establishing and implementing a school improvement process. Assist in the maintenance and operation of the school via delegated supervision of professional, paraprofessional, and service personnel.
