Summary
Incumbents may determine best methods and procedures to follow to complete assignments. This is a professional responsible for overseeing the movement of goods and products from one place to another. This involves coordinating with various stakeholders, warehouses, and transportation providers. The primary goal of a freight traffic controller is to ensure that shipments are delivered on time, in good condition, and keep accurate records of what is in the yard at all times. To achieve this, they must have excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
In either case, their role is critical to ensuring the smooth operation of the supply chain. They must also be able to adapt to unexpected disruptions, such as natural disasters or transportation network congestion. By doing so, they can help ensure that goods are delivered safely and efficiently, and that the needs of customers are met. Freight traffic managers play a vital role in supporting economic growth.
Tasks are very complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations. Decisions/actions may have an impact on the departments goals and may go beyond the department. Works under minimum supervision. Situations not covered by standard processes, procedures and methods are referred to manager or expert resource. May provide functional guidance to others performing similar work. May be considered the expert in areas assigned.
A wide range of responsibilities, including planning and coordinating shipments, negotiating with transportation providers, and monitoring cargo movement. Effective freight traffic control requires strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to communicate clearly across all levels of the organization.
Controller must make informed decisions under tight deadlines with limited information, and manage stress effectively to prevent costly mistakes or delays. By staying organized and focused, they ensure shipments are delivered safely and efficiently to meet our customers needs.
