POSITION SUMMARY

Algoma Venture Academy is seeking an innovative and collaborative 0.5 FTE English Advisor who is passionate about helping students discover their strengths, develop their voice, and find purpose in their learning. The English Advisor will provide standards-aligned English language arts instruction and advising within AVA's personalized, project-based learning environment. This position will work closely with students and the AVA team to design meaningful learning experiences that connect English skills and content to students' interests, authentic community contexts, and future goals.

In addition to teaching English, the English Advisor will serve as a student advisor and contribute to the broader life of the school. Responsibilities may include advising student projects, supporting personalized learning, participating in field experiences, collaborating with community partners, and contributing to school-wide planning and initiatives.

This position is ideal for an educator who is comfortable working outside of a traditional classroom model and who views students as active partners in their learning.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor''s degree from an accredited university
• Wisconsin teaching license appropriate for the position

Candidates who do not currently hold an appropriate teaching license may be considered; AVA is willing to work with qualified candidates to obtain emergency licensure and work toward full certification.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide high-quality, standards-aligned English language arts instruction for AVA students in grades 7-12, as assigned.
• Incorporate student choice, authentic audiences, real-world applications, and interdisciplinary connections into English learning.
• Advise students as they complete independent projects, community-based learninginitiatives, and other curriculum requirements.
• Use varied forms of assessment and continuous, descriptive feedback to help students improve their academic competence, confidence, and ownership of learning.
• Develop meaningful relationships with students and support their academic, personal, and post-secondary goals.
• Help students develop and pursue personalized learning plans based on their strengths, interests, and goals.
• Collaborate with AVA educators, students, families, administration, and community partners to support student success.
• Support a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all students.
