    Job Description

    90% - Administrative and Reception Support

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for visitors, faculty, staff, students, and members of the public, providing courteous and professional assistance.
    • Answer, screen, and route incoming phone calls, providing general information and directing inquiries to appropriate personnel.
    • Perform routine office support functions, including photocopying, scanning, filing, and other administrative tasks.
    • Provide administrative assistance to Dean's Office staff as needed to support daily operations.
    • Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and in accordance with office policies and guidance from supervisors.
    • Assist with scheduling and coordinating meetings, conferences, and events, including preparation of meeting spaces and logistical arrangements.
    • Receive, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail and deliveries.
    • Help maintain an organized, professional, and welcoming office environment.

    10% - Other Duties as Assigned

    • Assist with special projects, events, and office initiatives as needed.
    • Perform other related duties assigned by the Dean, Associate Deans, supervisors, or other designated office personnel.

    Position Overview

    The Student Assistant plays a key role in supporting the communication, coordination, and daily operations of the College Dean's Office. This position requires the ability to effectively manage a variety of responsibilities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and professionalism. The Student Assistant will have access to sensitive and confidential information and is expected to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times. Regular interaction with faculty, staff, students, parents, university administrators, and members of the public is an essential function of this role. Professional, courteous, and effective communication is required when representing the Dean's Office and collaborating with affiliated offices and departments across the university.

For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

    Employment Conditions

    (1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

    (2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
