JOB DESCRIPTION

TEACHER FOR K-12 ENGLISH LEARNERS (Anticipated as 9-12 position for the 2026-27 school year)

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an ESL endorsement (preferred)
   • or- Michigan certification and a demonstrated plan to secure the ESL endorsement within the first 3 years in the position
   • <
   • Knowledge of language development and language acquisition and effective literacy/content area instruction for English Learners
   • Experience as a classroom teacher at the secondary level (preferred)
   • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with ELD team members, administrators, classroom teachers, and other building team members
   • Demonstrated ability with computers and other educational technology

   • REPORTS TO: Building Principal(s)/Director of Elementary & District Programs

     RESPONSIBILITIES:

     1. Identify, serve, and monitor English Learners based on WIDA Screener and WIDA ACCESS scores.
     2. Plan, design, implement, and monitor impact of delivery of services to English Learners using the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework as a guide.
     3. Collaborate with staff to determine the needs of individual students and support implementation in the classroom setting.
     4. Provide feedback to teachers, administrative staff, and parents regarding student achievement and student language acquisition.
     5. Serve as a liaison between caregivers of English Learners and school staff.
     6. Plan for and implement outreach events for families and caregivers of English Learners.
     7. Assist with administration of district and state assessments for English Learners (i.e. district & classroom assessments, MAP Growth, M-STEP, PSAT, SAT, WIDA) ensuring appropriate accommodations are provided when applicable.
     8. Attend professional learning opportunities to strengthen skills.
     9. Collect and analyze data to monitor program effectiveness.
     10. Share progress monitoring information with caregivers and classroom staff.
     11. Maintain ongoing documentation of schedule and services provided to students.
     12. Provide recommendations for resources, materials, and instructional strategies to meet the needs of English Learners.
     13. Other duties as deemed necessary by building principal(s) and/or Director of Elementary & District Programs.
