Sports Official

The City of Saratoga Springs is accepting applications for Sports Officials in the Recreation Department. This is a continuous recruitment, and collected applications will be reviewed when more employees are needed for a program. These are part-time positions with the Saratoga Springs Recreation Department of approximately five to ten hours per week. These positions are responsible to act as the official at youth sports, games, or events.

These positions are under the supervision of the Recreation Director and the Recreation Site Supervisors. The Recreation Department will try to provide the successful applicant with opportunities to grow and progress within the department.

**Note: The Recreation Department conducts interviews for this position two to three times a year in preparation for the program seasons. You will be contacted for an interview when hiring begins for each season.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Officiate youth sports games
  • Know the rules to the game officiating
  • Other duties as assigned related to running Saratoga Springs Recreational programs including but not limited to:
    • Concessions
    • Field preparation and painting
    • Assist with special events
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Must be 14 years old or older, general sport knowledge gained by playing, officiating or coaching preferred, training will be provided.

Certifications Required:

  • None

Knowledge of:

  • The sport being officiated
  • The rules of the game being officiated

Ability to:

  • Talk to adults/coaches
  • Manage time
  • Multi task

  • Work involves standing for at least four (4) hours, walking, running, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 25 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet while in the office and moderately loud when in the field.
  • Work may periodically require the employee to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • The employee may be required to work in outside weather conditions, in wet and/or humid conditions.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary:

$13.60/hour

Benefits: There are no benefits offered as part of this position.

Closing Date: Open until filled. The Recreation Department is continually collecting applications. When more employees are needed for a program potential applicants will be selected from applications we have on file.

Schedule and Notices: These positions typically work five to ten hours weekly as scheduled by the Recreation Director or Recreation Coordinator, typically evenings and Saturdays
