Prep Cook

The Prep Cook is responsible for supporting daily kitchen operations through the preparation of ingredients, maintenance of food quality and safety standards, and execution of assigned culinary tasks. This role plays a key part in ensuring efficient food production, cleanliness, and operational readiness while contributing to a high-quality dining experience.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Follow assignments and direction from the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, or Kitchen Supervisors regarding food preparation, opening, and closing procedures.
  • Prepare ingredients and food items in accordance with established recipes, portion controls, quality standards, and departmental procedures.
  • Ensure proper food handling, storage, labeling, and temperature controls are maintained at all times.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of workstations, kitchen equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, shelves, walls, floors, drains, and storage areas in accordance with health and safety standards.
  • Properly handle, operate, and clean kitchen equipment to prevent damage, injury, or contamination.
  • Assist with receiving, stocking, rotating, and organizing food and supply inventory as directed.
  • Work collaboratively with culinary team members to ensure timely preparation and delivery of high-quality food products.
  • Adhere to all company policies, food safety standards, sanitation requirements, and appearance guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications

To perform this role successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

Education And/Or Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • One (1) year of culinary, food service, restaurant, catering, or related experience preferred.
  • Culinary school training or equivalent hands-on culinary experience preferred.

Skills And Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques, food safety practices, sanitation standards, and kitchen operations.
  • Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and established preparation procedures with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with team members and leadership.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and comply with uniform standards.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as business needs require.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions associated with food preparation; and safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Compensation

$22/hour + a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and 401(k) plan.

Location: On-site (One World Observatory, NYC)
