Overview The Gas Resource Analyst supports long-range gas planning by developing and executing analytical modeling to inform resource decisions, system reliability, and regulatory strategy. The role requires hands-on experience with the PLEXOS optimization platform to model the natural gas system as an interconnected network and identify least-cost resource portfolios under various scenarios and constraints. Analysts integrate forecasts, supply contracts, demand-side programs, and policy assumptions into the model, run scenarios, and interpret results to evaluate tradeoffs across cost, reliability, emissions, and risk. A strong understanding of natural gas systems—including design day planning, pipeline capacity, storage operations, and customer usage patterns—is essential to ensure modeling reflects real-world behavior. The position supports integrated resource plans and regulatory filings, translating complex technical results into clear narratives, data tables, and testimony that meet regulatory requirements and support informed decision-making.Essential Responsibilities Independently perform complex resource modeling for gas supply portfolios for XE's gas and electric operations. Work with model developers to address changing needs.Create forecasts projecting peak gas requirements for gas distribution and electric generation. Model to predict customer needs and ensure continuous service. Use forecasts to determine transportation and storage contracts across 12 pipeline systems and determine when to modify or purchase additional capacity, with expenditures around $200M/year.Prepare and defend regulatory filings to recover costs related to the gas fuel budget. Interface with regulators, intervenors, customers, and suppliers to obtain consensus and regulatory approval of optimal resource plans, including written and oral testimony and negotiations.
