DESCRIPTION:
Provides customer service and administrative support to customers and visitors. Greets customers and visitors, answers routine questions, and provides information regarding available programs and services. Serves as the first point of contact and directs customers and visitors to the appropriate office or staff member. Performs routine clerical duties, data entry, scheduling assistance, and maintains customer records. Resolves routine customer concerns and refers complex issues to the appropriate staff. Assists with maintaining an organized reception area and reports operational concerns. Assists with community outreach activities as assigned. Provides information and referrals to customers. Serves as the backup to the Community Liaison by assisting with facility operations, community outreach activities, customer service coordination, and special projects during periods of absence or increased operational need. Maintains records and documents customer interactions. Represents the department through courteous customer interactions. Performs work within established policies and procedures under supervision. Must have a valid Texas Driver's license and comply with AP 2- policy. Will work varies location as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE: Requires a high school diploma or a GED.
EXPERIENCE: Six months of administrative or customer service-related experience is required.
Substitution: An Associate's degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position is physically comfortable most of the time with occasional periods of stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials of up to 10 pounds .In the Houston Permitting Center, the position may require lifting of moderately heavy items, such as plans (up to 40 pounds) .
WORK ENVIRONMENT: There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions .The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal .
PHYSICAL SKILL: Requires the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance demands with no real speed requirements.
