JOB TITLE: Instructional Aide / Personal Care Assistant

DESCRIPTION OF BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES

All shifts are Monday through Friday.
Hours are 9:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., with a 30‑minute unpaid break.

Work with students with special needs by providing behavioral and academic support. Assist in implementing effective educational programs as assigned by the student’s case manager or behaviorist. Support instruction and meet individual student needs, which may include feeding, toileting, positioning, and monitoring health conditions for students with disabilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS MAY INCLUDE:

1. Provide instruction as directed by the teacher to individual students or small groups in areas including cognitive skills, gross and fine motor skills, feeding skills, self‑help skills, and behavior management.
2. Assist the teacher in maintaining the health and safety of students with physical disabilities by remaining aware of the environment and potential hazards related to each student’s actions.
3. Assist students with personal hygiene, including washing hands and faces, toileting, and changing diapers or clothing as needed.
4. Monitor and manage student behavior in accordance with established guidelines and behavior plans.
5. Assist specialists with physical development and related activities.
6. Prepare students for participation in mainstream classes according to established procedures.
7. Attend required trainings and in‑service sessions related to medical interventions and instructional programs.
8. Assist students with braces and other orthopedic equipment, including lifting, positioning, and repositioning students as needed.
9. Assist the teacher in maintaining records related to student progress.
10. Implement positive behavior intervention and support strategies.
11. Collaborate with case workers, general education teachers, and other staff as needed.
12. Assist students in developing and maintaining appropriate social interactions.
13. Work cooperatively with others and independently as required.
14. Perform other related duties as assigned that are consistent with the scope and function of the position.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Knowledge of:

• First Aid and CPR procedures
• Basic record‑keeping techniques
• Proper English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification
• TB test clearance
• Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance
