The Assistant Store Manager supports the day-to-day performance of the museum store while delivering an exceptional customer experience. This is a hands‑on management position that is expected to work alongside staff on the sales floor, actively assisting visitors, supporting daily operations, and leading by example. The role supervises Sales Associates, balances daily receipts, and maintains a clean, organized, and visitor‑ready store environment, ensuring alignment with the Museum's mission and values. This position reports to the Retail Manager.Primary ResponsibilitiesManage and supervise Sales Associates, including scheduling, training, coaching, and day-to-day directionBalance daily receipts and reconcile cash handling and open and close functionsMaintain a clean, organized, and safe store environment for visitor comfortLead on store operations, customer service, and point of sale functionsTrain, coach, and motivate retail staff with a service‑first mindset and an understanding of the products being soldMaintain an organized, full, and clean shopping floorResponsible for purchasing store operational supplies (e.g., cleaning and maintenance supplies)Ensure compliance with POS procedures, safety, and loss preventionCollaborate with Visitor Experience and OperationsPromote the Museum and its mission with a focus on converting sales into new membershipsServe as Manager on Duty on weekends with a regular working schedule of Wednesday through SundayOther duties as assignedQualifications2–4 years of retail experience, including direct experience managing, supervising, or overseeing staff (museum or cultural institution preferred)Experience with educational, gift store, and artisan products a plusKnowledge of and experience delivering good customer serviceExperience with school groups preferredProficiency with POS systems (Shopify preferred)Ability to bend, reach, stand for long periods, and lift or carry weights up to 50+ poundsStrong organizational and problem‑solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a visitor‑facing environmentComfort working in public settingsAbility to work onsite at the Museum days, weekends, and occasional evenings for special eventsInterest in and enthusiasm for American history, museums, education, or public serviceTo ApplyThis position is on site and the salary is $50,000 annually.#J-18808-Ljbffr
