Aptitude Technician 3 (Union) - Bowling Green, OHRole SummaryThe Aptitude Technician 3 (Union) role is responsible for performing complex installation, routing, labeling and testing of fiber and low-voltage systems in a variety of environments, and supporting the commissioning of systems through substantial practical experience. Environments and project types may include data centers, hospitals and commercial construction, both new build and remodels of existing buildings.Key Role Responsibilities - CoreAPTITUDE TECHNICIAN FAMILY – COREWorking knowledge of basic toolsBasic understanding and use of principles of layout and construction math as necessary per project needsBasic understanding of cabling technology and installation techniquesPulls, routes and secures copper and fiber cabling per drawings and standardsAssists with device rough‑in, mounting of back boxes and pathway installationTerminates jacks, patch panels and assists with labeling and documentationSupports testing and troubleshooting of finished installationsResponsible for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) compliance and following OSHA standardsAdheres to JE Dunn safety standardsRole requires personal ownership of all necessary hand tools and pouchesShows up and is ready to work when scheduledCommunicates absence or tardiness with supervisor as early as possibleShows respect for yourself and othersWorks safelyHas a can‑do attitudeKey Role Responsibilities - Additional CoreAPTITUDE TECHNICIAN 3 (UNION)Identifies installation issues and escalates to supervision for assessment and correctionPerforms advanced cable and fiber splicing and certification testingInterprets engineered drawings, riser diagrams and one‑lines for other team membersUtilizes knowledge of systems and cabling architecture to assist with the commissioning processDocuments test results and assists in identifying failed componentsKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely mannerEffective Communication skills, verbal and writtenKnowledge of specific trades and scopes of workProficiency with termination tools and inspection scopesExpert knowledge of OTDR trace analysis and troubleshootingUnderstanding of loss budgets, polarity, and cleanliness standardsCertifications such as BICSI INSTFProficient with hand tools and test equipment such as OLTS or OTDRBasic understanding of principles of layout and construction mathStrong understanding of BICSI, NFPA, and NEC standardsKnowledge of types and uses of fiber and copper cablingAbility to complete assigned duties with minimal guidanceAbility to provide excellent customer serviceAbility to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externallyEducationHigh School Diploma or GED (Preferred)Apprentice and/or Vocational/Technical/Trade training (Preferred)In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.Experience5+ years experience in specific trade (Preferred)5+ years commercial construction experience (Preferred)Working EnvironmentMust be able to lift at least 50 poundsMay be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold)Must be willing to work non‑traditional hours to meet project needsMust have reliable transportationMay require use of respiratorMust be comfortable working at projected heights, narrow workspaces, various depths (trenches)Frequent activity: Standing, Walking, Climbing, Bending, Kneeling, Carrying, Swinging, Reaching above Shoulder, Pushing, Pulling, BalancingOccasional activity: Sitting, Viewing Computer ScreenSpecific environmental and physical requirements may vary by project type/locationBenefitsBenefits package aligned to this position is Skilled Trade Union.
