    Description

    Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Rheumatology

    Riverside is currently seeking a dedicated full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Rheumatology team in Newport News, Virginia. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with a supervising rheumatologist and a multidisciplinary care team to diagnose, treat, and manage musculoskeletal and autoimmune diseases such as arthritis, lupus, and osteoporosis.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Patient Care: Conduct physical exams, review medical histories, and develop comprehensive treatment plans for rheumatologic conditions.
    • Diagnostic Interpretation: Order and interpret diagnostic tests including X-rays and bone density scans.
    • Medical Management: Prescribe medications, monitor effectiveness, and adjust treatment as needed.
    • Procedures: Perform joint injections and aspirations, occasionally using ultrasound guidance.
    • Patient Education: Provide education to patients and families on disease management, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications.
    • Collaboration: Partner with rheumatologists, nurses, and other specialists to ensure continuity and quality of care.
    • Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely records in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
    • Administrative Support: Assist with prior authorizations, infusion clinic management, and other administrative tasks as needed.
    Licensure & Certification (Required)
    Nurse Practitioner
    • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia.
    • Active Virginia Nurse Practitioner license with a specialty designation aligned to outpatient internal‑medicine–based care (e.g., Family NP, Adult NP, or Adult‑Gerontology NP).
    • National NP Certification matching the specialty designation (e.g., FNP‑BC/FNP‑C, A‑GNP, AGPCNP‑BC).
    Physician Assistant
    • Active and unrestricted Virginia PA license.
    • Current NCCPA certification.

    In addition:

    • Prior clinical experience, especially in primary care or chronic disease management, is highly beneficial.
    • Proficiency in diagnostic interpretation and patient assessment.
    • Strong communication and patient education skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
    • Manual dexterity and coordination for performing procedures.
    Prescriptive Authority Requirements
    • Active DEA registration (or eligibility).
    • Eligibility for Schedule II–VI prescriptive authority in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
    Certifications
    • Current BLS certification required.
    • ACLS recommended but may not be required for outpatient rheumatology depending on clinic protocol.
