Accounting Manager
LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking an Accounting Manager for one of our nonprofit clients located in Oakland, California. The work schedule is hybrid and will be in-office 1 maybe 2 days a week. This is a full-time, temporary leadership opportunity for an experiencedaccounting professional with a strong background in month-end close, general ledger management, financial reporting, and team supervision. The ideal candidate will have experience managing high-volume accounting transactions, leading accounting staff, and supporting audit activities in a fast-paced environment. Experience within a nonprofit organization is highly preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the month-end close process, ensuring deadlines are met and transactions are accurately recorded.
- Review and approve invoices, ACH and check payments, employee reimbursements, credit card transactions, and youth stipend payments for accuracy and proper coding.
- Review and approve journal entries and maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
- Perform account reconciliations and prepare transaction-level reporting as assigned.
- Support the annual financial audit and tax return preparation by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.
- Supervise the Staff Accountant and Accounts Payable Specialist, providing leadership, coaching, and performance support.
- Assist with onboarding, training, and cross-training of accounting team members.
- Support the implementation and ongoing use of Sage Intacct and related finance systems.
- Identify and implement process improvements that strengthen internal controls and improve operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Strong experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger management.
- Experience with accounting and financial software systems; Sage Intacct experience is highly desirable.
- Experience with MIP and/or Concur is a plus.
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Experience: 5+ years of accounting experience with demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience. Nonprofit accounting experience is strongly preferred.
