Position Summary
The Director of Staff Development / Infection Preventionist is responsible for leading staff education, clinical competency programs, infection prevention, regulatory compliance, and nursing schedule coordination. This leader will work closely with the Administrator, Director of Nursing, and interdisciplinary leadership team to ensure staff are well-trained, regulatory standards are maintained, and clinical best practices are consistently followed throughout the facility.
This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced DSD who understands the demands of skilled nursing and is comfortable balancing education, compliance, infection prevention, and scheduling responsibilities while building a positive culture of accountability and continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all staff development and clinical education programs
Develop and maintain orientation, onboarding, and competency programs
Oversee the facility's Infection Prevention and Infection Control Program
Monitor compliance with state and federal regulations
Conduct clinical rounds and provide ongoing staff education
Coordinate nursing schedules while supporting staffing operations
Maintain required infection prevention, education, and compliance documentation
Partner with the Administrator and Director of Nursing to strengthen clinical systems and accountability
Prepare for surveys and support ongoing regulatory readiness
Participate in interdisciplinary leadership meetings and quality improvement initiatives
Foster a culture of continuous education, teamwork, and clinical excellence
Qualifications
Active California RN or LVN license required
Proven experience serving as a Director of Staff Development (DSD) in a skilled nursing facility required
California DSD certification required, or eligibility and willingness to obtain certification
Experience with Infection Prevention programs and regulatory documentation
Strong understanding of CMS regulations, survey readiness, and clinical operations
Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work collaboratively with nursing leadership in a team-oriented environment
