    Position Overview

    The .50% Physical Education/Health Teacher will provide high-quality instruction in physical education and health in accordance with West Virginia College- and Career-Readiness Standards, Boone County Schools curriculum expectations, and applicable state and federal requirements. The teacher will promote physical fitness, health, wellness, personal responsibility, and lifelong healthy habits while providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.

    Qualifications

    The successful applicant must:

    • Hold or be eligible to hold a valid West Virginia teaching certificate with the appropriate endorsement(s) for Physical Education and/or Health applicable to the assigned grade levels.
    • Meet all certification requirements established by the West Virginia Department of Education.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of effective instructional practices in physical education and health.
    • Demonstrate the ability to develop and implement standards-based lessons appropriate to students' ages and developmental levels.
    • Demonstrate effective classroom and student-management skills.
    • Possess strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, staff, students, and families.
    • Meet all employment requirements established by Boone County Schools and applicable West Virginia law.

    Responsibilities

    The Physical Education/Health Teacher will:

    • Plan and deliver effective instruction in physical education and health consistent with state standards and county curriculum.
    • Develop lesson plans that address physical fitness, motor skills, health education, wellness, nutrition, safety, and other appropriate instructional standards.
    • Provide students with opportunities to develop skills and knowledge necessary to maintain healthy and physically active lifestyles.
    • Establish and maintain a safe, positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
    • Adapt instruction and activities to meet the individual needs, abilities, and developmental levels of students.
    • Provide appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities in accordance with IEPs, Section 504 Plans, and other applicable requirements.
    • Assess student performance and maintain accurate records of student progress, grades, and attendance.
    • Use assessment information and student data to guide instructional decisions.
    • Establish clear expectations for student behavior, participation, safety, and appropriate use of equipment.
    • Inspect and properly maintain physical education equipment and instructional materials.
    • Follow appropriate safety procedures during physical education activities.
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education personnel, administrators, and other staff to support student achievement and well-being.
    • Communicate appropriately with parents and guardians regarding student progress, participation, and concerns.
    • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, collaborative planning, and other required school activities consistent with the employee's assignment.
    • Comply with Boone County Schools policies, procedures, employee expectations, and applicable state and federal laws.
    • Maintain student confidentiality and professional standards of conduct.
    • Perform other duties related to the position as assigned by the principal, Superintendent, or designee.

    Employment Terms

    • Position: .50% Physical Education/Health Teacher
    • Contract: 200 Days
    • Employment: .50 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE)
    • Salary: Based on the Boone County Schools Salary Schedule, according to approved years of experience and degree level, prorated at .50 FTE.
    • Reports To: Building Principal and/or Designee

    Evaluation

    Performance will be evaluated in accordance with applicable West Virginia educator evaluation requirements, Boone County Schools policies, and administrative procedures.
