Job Description - Classroom Aide - Dual Language

Primary Function: Under the direction of the Principal and designated Dual Language teacher, assists the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities, administrative requirements, and instructional support tailored to Dual Language (DL) students. Provides administrative, logistical, and language -related clerical support for the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC).

Responsibilities/Duties: Works with individual students or small groups in English and/or the target language to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher. Provides targeted language and academic support to enable Dual Language students to develop competencies and skills in both languages. Accommodates differences in student learning styles and language proficiency levels during instructional activities. Assists the teacher in preparing bilingual instructional materials, learning centers, and culturally relevant classroom displays. Keeps the teacher informed of any special needs, language barriers, or academic progress of individual students. Assists in maintaining a neat, orderly, and language-rich classroom environment.

LPAC & Administrative Support Assists campus staff with LPAC documentation, data collection, organizing student files, and maintaining compliance records. Helps prepare LPAC meeting materials, parent notifications, and language assessment document folders. Assists with the administration and objective scoring of language proficiency assessments or classroom work assignments as assigned. Checks and records student attendance and assists the teacher with required administrative records and reports. Serves as a bilingual communication bridge, assisting with parent outreach, oral communication, or administrative translations as needed.

Student Supervision & Classroom Operations Assists in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom (e.g., cafeteria, playground, arrival/dismissal). Manages student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook to maintain a supportive learning environment. Assists in inventory, care, and maintenance of classroom equipment, technology, and instructional materials. Provides orientation and assistance to substitute teachers, including clarifying language - support structures.

Other Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Serves as a role model for all district staff. Maintains strict confidentiality of information about students, cumulative records, and LPAC documentation equal to licensed teachers. Participates in approved professional development opportunities, in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and special events. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of: Oral and written communication skills in English and the designated target language (e.g., Spanish). Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Methods of collecting, organizing, and maintaining data and records. Basic LPAC procedures and Dual Language / Emergent Bilingual program requirements. District and department policies and procedures. Operation of a computer and assigned software.

Ability to: Work well with children and support bilingual learners effectively. Work independently with little direction. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in both English and the target language. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Maintain regular and consistent attendance. Develop, plan, and organize daily operations. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Meet schedules and time lines. Plan and organize work.

Education/Licenses/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. At least 48 college hours or successful completion of Paraprofessional Certification Training or similarly approved program/course upon hire. Educational Aide Certificate I, II or III, or willingness to obtain.
