    Position Overview

    We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer – Fuel Systems to support new product development (NPI) for fuel injector components within a fast-paced, hands-on engineering team. This onsite role in Pontiac, IL, blends desk-based design work with lab and factory time, offering exposure to the full product development lifecycle from CAD modeling through testing and production release.

    Key Contributions & Responsibilities

    • Support new product development/introduction (NPI) initiatives from concept through release
    • Create and maintain 3D models and engineering drawings using Creo
    • Perform print detailing and update engineering technical drawings, coordinating production releases
    • Conduct and document Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
    • Develop and execute Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R)
    • Apply Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) methodology
    • Coordinate engineering analysis with cross-functional and supplier teams
    • Support supplier CPPD (Collaborative Planning, Product Development) activities
    • Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, o-ring calculations, and bolted joint analysis
    • Lead and participate in design, product development, and problem-solving meetings with suppliers and internal manufacturing, assembly, and test teams
    • Coordinate and conduct measurement, assembly, and test planning
    • Disassemble, inspect, and measure components after testing, comparing results to pre-test condition
    • Provide routine progress updates to senior management

    Team Structure & Work Environment

    • Desk/office setting: approximately 40–50% of time
    • Test lab and factory floor: approximately 50–60% of time
    Requirements

    Candidate Requirements

    Education & Experience

    Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 2–4 years of relevant experience

    Top Skills

    • Structured problem-solving experience/familiarity (8D or similar methodology)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong attention to detail, curiosity, and a drive toward physics-based root-cause understanding of issues and component observations

    Additional Technical Skills – Required

    • 3D modeling and engineering drawing/detailing experience

    Additional Technical Skills – Desired

    • Comfortable working with hand tools and lab equipment (microscope, measurement equipment)
    • Familiarity with Design FMEA and validation planning/reporting (DVP&R)
    • Experience with industry-standard engineering systems (e.g., Teamcenter, PRWB, Creo) is a plus
