This position serves as a supervisor and performs a variety of duties including, but not limited to identifying and evaluating highway maintenance needs; planning, monitoring & performing maintenance activities; coordinating highway maintenance resources; providing input and monitoring multiple maintenance-related budgets; managing assigned facilities, equipment, vehicles and assets; attending training and identifying training needs/opportunities for staff and participating in all personnel actions involving subordinates including hiring, performance reviews, disciplinary actions as necessary, and career growth and development. Knowledge of: Department of Transportation policies and procedures pertaining to highway construction, maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation (desirable but not required); human resources practices sufficient to supervise personnel (desirable but not required); highway maintenance equipment (desirable for not required); winter highway maintenance techniques; methods, materials, and techniques used to perform road maintenance activities; mathematics sufficient to calculate cost estimates, volumes, quantities, and time; preventative maintenance methods such as changing oil, rotating tires and lubricating parts.
