This is specialized advanced level public contact work assisting with the Citys zoning ordinances. Work involves assisting the public with applications for Certificates of Use, Accessory Uses and other zoning documents.
An employee in this position is responsible for working directly with the public explaining the City of Miami zoning ordinances and providing assistance and general oversight of the application process including a preliminary review of construction plans. Addresses and directs telephone inquiries including call back requests left on the 311-county information hotline pertaining to the Citys zoning ordinances. Makes copies, scans documents, and maintains section files and records.
Essential Functions
Provides customer service as necessary to the public regarding zoning section applications, including distributing the appropriate applications such as: Certificates of Use, Accessory Uses, and other zoning documents.
Provides public records while following proper procedures and established standards.
Answers telephone inquiries pertaining to zoning information. Provides the appropriate information and directs the caller as necessary.
Returns telephone call back requests received through the 311-county information hotline within the required window of time as determined by the department to provide assistance and guidance to public.
Provides clerical support to the zoning section including, but not limited to: making copies, scanning documents, drafting Zoning Verification Letters, researching records and maintaining section files.
Provides preliminary zoning information to developers and property owners regarding parking requirements, setback information, and other zoning related inquiries.
Disseminates information in reference to the City of Miami zoning ordinances.
Reviews tax cards, surveys, plans, and history documents to verify compliance with zoning standards for zoning applications.
Verifies alcohol applications meet the minimum requirements for final review and generates invoices for processing.
Processes, reviews and approves Certificate of Use applications.
Processes, reviews and approves applications for accessory use permits.
Processes Certificate of Use amendments that meet city ordinance standards.
Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Requirements
A minimum of 60 college credits and two (2) years experience performing public contact work. Six (6) months experience related to zoning, inspections, plans processing or code administration.
OR
Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months of the required experience.

Selection Preference for City Residents: In accordance with APM 2-02, applicants for classified positions who are City of Miami residents and new hires will receive preference in selection from interview ranking bands provided that any two (2) of the following documents are submitted with the employment application and again at time of interview:

B. Valid Florida Driver License or State-issued I.D.
C. Property Tax Statement dated within 1 year of the date of submission
