Reports to: General Manager and Owners
Overview
The Assistant Manager supports daily restaurant operations to ensure exceptional guest experiences and consistent operational performance. This role enforces company standards, mentors the team, and helps maintain a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment.
Key Responsibilities
Training and Certification
- Complete required training programs, including the Assistant Manager Development Plan, Basic Operations Training, Food Safety Certification, Manager Certification, and any additional ZaxBax-mandated training.
Guest Experience & Service Standards
- Ensure team members meet and exceed guest expectations.
- Maintain consistent service, product quality, and cleanliness standards.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest concerns.
Team Leadership & Development
- Train, coach, and develop team members through ongoing feedback and mentoring.
- Supervise shifts, assign duties, communicate expectations, and adjust staffing as needed.
- Support performance reviews, administer progressive discipline when necessary, and report performance concerns to the General Manager.
- Promote a positive culture and strong team morale through recognition and leading by example.
Operations & Compliance
- Enforce adherence to Zaxby's/ZaxBax franchising policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Keep accurate, organized records and use management tools effectively.
- Report human resources, risk management, and safety concerns immediately to the General Manager and owners; escalate other issues appropriately.
- Perform other duties required to support smooth restaurant operations.
Administrative & Managerial Tasks
- Create effective work schedules in line with company standards and local laws.
- Assist with sales forecasting and manage inventory.
- Ensure team follows safety protocols and uses equipment properly.
Other Expectations
- Maintain flexibility and willingness to perform duties beyond the written job description as needed.
- Ensure safe working practices around potentially hazardous equipment and food allergens.
Qualifications
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation.
- Availability to work at least 40 hours per week, including flexible scheduling for days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Prior leadership experience preferred.
Physical & Functional Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Occasional stooping, bending, crouching, climbing (including ladder use).
- Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds, including overhead lifting.
- Continuous use of hands and wrists for grasping and fine manipulation.
- Effective verbal, reading, and written communication skills.
- Adequate audio-visual perception to monitor and respond to the environment.
- Comfortable working in temperature-variable environments and around food allergens.
- Safe operation of restaurant equipment (e.g., knives, fryers, and similar equipment).
