GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Family Services is seeking a dedicated Youth Services Security Officer to provide safety, security, and risk management services at the Wyoming Girls' School, a residential institution serving adjudicated delinquent female youth.

In this highly rewarding role, Youth Services Security Officers work proactively to identify and mitigate risks while maintaining a secure, structured, and positive environment for both youth and staff. By fostering safety and stability, this position helps create an atmosphere where youth can focus on personal growth, skill development, and positive behavioral change.

Successful candidates will play an important role in supporting rehabilitation efforts and empowering young women to become productive and successful members of their communities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.

  • Maintain a safe and secure residential environment by staying alert and aware of all campus activity.
  • Manage crisis situations using verbal de-escalation and approved techniques that follow facility policy and crisis management certification.
  • Perform ongoing safety assessments of the campus to ensure all environmental risks are addressed, and the needs of the youth are safely met.
  • Communicate professionally with staff regarding youth progress by accurately recording behaviors and events in logbooks and incident reports.
  • Coordinate with other departments on campus to support educational and medical needs, including the safe transport of youth to off-campus appointments or activities.
  • Oversee campus access and security by facilitating proper check-in procedures for all visitors while providing professional customer service.
  • Maintain all required certifications and training, including CPR/First Aid, defensive driving, and the facility's approved crisis intervention system.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Skills and ability to assess grounds and buildings safety and risk factors.
  • Skills and ability to interact with residents, staff, and the public respectfully and professionally.
  • Skills and ability to de-escalate youth; physical ability to participate in advanced crisis intervention training.
  • Ability to complete CPR/First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Ability to obtain Defensive Driving Certification, provided by the State of Wyoming
  • Suicide Intervention and Prevention training.
  • Knowledge of PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) standards and practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High School Diploma

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Youth Services) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Youth Services Aide

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Youth Services) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Youth Services Aide

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

None

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position will work 10-hour shifts

  • May be required to work weekends and holidays

  • Must have the physical ability to complete the MANDT certification

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • All positions within the Department of Family Services will require a background check, including taking fingerprints, which will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
