Under the direction of the Cook I/Kitchen Manager, the Part-Time Cook is responsible for supplying food for residents and staff, restocking shelves, cleaning and completing related paperwork. This position is Not Covered (At-will) as defined by The Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for cooking and serving meals, including sides and salads, for residents and staff of the Youth Services Center.
  • Restocks shelves and rotates stock.
  • Washes, dries, and puts away dishes.
  • Sweeps and mops floors and rubber matting.
  • Responsible for washing all equipment, including, but not limited to the grill, deep fryer, and baskets.
  • Documents meals for tracking purposes.
  • Prepares and distributes snacks twice daily.
  • Separates trash and recyclables.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED and more than one year of experience working in kitchen or food services
  • Ability to obtain ServSafe Certification within six months of employment
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and cooking procedures
  • Ability to use grill, oven, fryers and other kitchen equipment

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

The Part-Time Cook maintains frequent contact with other county employees and residents of Youth Services Center when cooking and serving food to residents and staff members.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Part-Time Cook works in a standard kitchen environment with frequent standing and the ability to move about freely, frequent lifting of up to forty pounds, bending, pushing/pulling, reach over head and some kneeling crawling and climbing ladders. Frequent attention to detail, monitoring equipment and detailed inspection is required. The Part-time Cook is very frequently exposed to extreme temperatures, dangerous equipment, chemicals, noise and noxious odors.

LICENSING:

Ability to obtain ServSafe Certification within six months of employment

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:

Cook I/Kitchen Manager

HOURS:

10:30am - 6pm; hours vary per week; minimum 16 hours/week
