Description of Work

This is a special posting.

This Youth Program Education Assistant I (YPEA I) position located in Murdoch Developmental Center’s Statewide Programs/Summerset-PATH provides services to children with intellectual disabilities/developmental disabilities who display extreme behavioral challenges. This position will assist the professional educational staff at the Center’s school-based setting in classrooms, at job sites as a job coach, and provide direct support in a residential setting as needed. This position will receive extensive training in Person-Centered Planning, North Carolina Interventions (NCI), Behavior Intervention Procedures, Skill Training Procedures, and Positive Interaction Procedures. All programs utilize an Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) approach and are designed both to reduce behavioral excesses (e.g., physical and verbal aggression), as well as to accelerate positive social skills (e.g., communication, conflict resolution skills, and cooperation). Treatment also includes training in the areas of self-help, education, communication, vocation, and recreation as deemed necessary by the interdisciplinary treatment team. Behavior programs are carefully integrated across all areas of training and are designed with consideration for the individual’s eventual return to the community. All individuals in each program have histories of aberrant behavior commonly including physical aggression, verbal aggression, property destruction, spitting, feces smearing, running away, self-mutilation, and noncompliance.

ALL employees of Murdoch Center are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events.
