Radiologic Technologist/ X-Ray Technologist

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to perform positioning of the C-Arm and patient and technical skills using the C-arm to capture images of the requested portions of the human body to help guide the physician in the performance of the interventional pain procedure.

Positioning Patient on OR Table; setting up and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum view of the specific area of the body as requested by physician.

Determining positioning needs of the patient and imaging requests of the physician by reading orders or instructions from the physician. Making exposures necessary for the requested procedure, rejecting and repeating any images that do not meet established standards.

Using beam-restrictive devices and patient shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patient and staff.

Explaining procedures and process to patients to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperation.

Maintaining safety and always preserving dignity of patient.

Assisting the nurse in providing care as directed.

Actively participating in the Universal Protocol/Surgical Time Out by actively listening and responding regarding the confirmation of correct patient, using two patient identifiers, correct procedure, side, etc.

Leading and maintaining appropriate radiation safety training and competencies. Assisting in monitoring methods of exposure to radiation to assure that staff are exposed to least amount of radiation possible.

Maintaining radiological equipment and proper badge use and storage. Troubleshooting problems with C-Arm. Assuring appropriate use of equipment, including lead apron use by all staff in OR.

Documenting fluoroscopy usage and correct storage and printing of images as determined by physician request.

Following principles of aseptic technique in performance of duties.

Participating in Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement activities as a member of the team.

Effectively communicating with all physicians and staff members of the team.

Accepting and performing role of Radiation Safety Officer for ASC.

Demonstrating competency and performing additional duties in at least two of the following areas:

Intra-operative: Applying and monitoring principles of aseptic technique throughout the intra-operative period. Assisting physician and team by having all equipment available and ready. Efficiently participating in the "turn-over" of the OR between cases, performing duties while observing aseptic technique. Communicating all breaches of aseptic technique immediately to physician and RN.

Pre/ Post Op: Assisting RN in preparing the patient for the procedure by correctly identifying patient using two patient identifiers and procedure to be performed. Confirming and updating medication and allergy profile, complete all waived testing after demonstration of competency. Assisting in keeping the ASC neat, clean and orderly, following appropriately cleaning protocols, using correct disinfectant and while wearing appropriate PPE.

Preceptor: Effectively communicating with and leading all education regarding radiation safety in the ASC. Functioning as a leader in the ASC by performing as a preceptor to new staff, communicating effectively regarding new employee progress. Assuring that the new employee is able to function independently prior to allowing them to perform their job independently. Actively and enthusiastically participating in the orientation process striving for the independence and success of the new employee as a member of the ASC team.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program.

At least 5 years of related experience preferred.

Strong organizational, communication and analytical skills. Demonstrating excellent judgment, sometimes while under pressure.

Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize multiple tasks.

Professional, pleasant, and compassionate behavior towards patients, families, physicians, staff, vendors, organizational leadership and general public.

Ability to promote favorable organization image to patients, families, physicians, staff, vendors, organizational leadership and general public.

Ability to work independently, make decisions, solve problems, and understand when to ask for help.

Evidence of leadership qualities. Consistently contributing to the improvement of the Ambulatory Surgery Center and the organization. Participating willingly and effectively in meetings and in ASC projects.

Providing excellent customer service and contributing to a positive team environment.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Licenses & Certifications

Current unrestricted Wisconsin License as a Licensed Radiographer.

Current certification ARRT by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent.

BLS certified or to obtain BLS certification within three months of hire.
