Travel to cover other Network HBO sites in PA. PA & NJ License required.

HBO 40-hour course provided if needed. 1 year commitment agreement required.

Under the direction of the Medical Director of the Wound Management and Hyperbaric Medicine Department, Regional Manager and/or Clinical Coordinator the Hyperbaric Technician administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician in a monoplace hyperbaric chamber. The Hyperbaric Technician operates and maintains the hyperbaric chamber(s) and associated systems and equipment and assists in the delivery of patient care appropriate to the level of his/her medical licensure.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepares the hyperbaric chamber, equipment, medicine, materials, and insurance authorization as needed for patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

  2. Operates, maintains and ensures the safety of the hyperbaric facility and all associated systems and equipment.

  3. Explains purpose and procedure of hyperbaric treatment of the patient.

  4. Carries out hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment protocols/policies as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician.

  5. Observes the patients and the hyperbaric systems during the course of hyperbaric oxygen treatment. Reports unusual occurrences to hyperbaric physician and records patients' condition.

  6. Maintains operating, maintenance and safety logs and other required documentation. Signs all logs as specified in departmental policy and procedure.

  7. Maintains the cleanliness of the hyperbaric oxygen therapy equipment as per departmental policy.

  8. Performs preventive and any other required maintenance on the hyperbaric system. Maintains chamber maintenance records and coordinates maintenance with contracted hyperbaric chamber Maintenance Company. Communicates record to hyperbaric technician team leader and biomed department.

  9. Assists with transport of patients as required.

  10. Assists in maintaining an appropriate inventory of all departmental supplies.

  11. Maintains department in a clean, neat and orderly condition.

  12. Reports treatments to be conducted and condition of patients to relief personnel.

  13. Takes an active role in hyperbaric medicine education programs as well as in orienting hospital and other personnel to hyperbaric oxygen therapy and the Hyperbaric Medicine Department.

  14. Operates departmental photography equipment and maintains patients' photographic files as prescribed in departmental policy and procedure.

  15. Completes Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Safety Director Training, and keeps up to date with new developments in the field of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

  16. Performs monthly safety drills with Wound Management and Hyperbaric Medicine staff. Communicates record to hyperbaric technician team leader.

  17. Participates in yearly hospital wide hyperbaric oxygen therapy safety drill. Communicates record to hyperbaric technician team leader.

  18. Proficient in glucometer usage and recording.

Additional responsibilities for LPN/RN in the hyperbaric technician position:

  1. Measures and records patients' wounds.

  2. Performs wound care and dressing changes as ordered by physician.

  3. Assists physician with patient wound/hyperbaric examinations.

  4. Photographs/documents patient wounds.

  5. Demonstrates ability to utilize hand held doppler and record results appropriately.

  6. Demonstrates working knowledge of all hyperbaric/wound policies and procedures.

  7. Documents and other pertinent information in the patient chart/electronic record in a timely manner.

  8. Assures patient safety at all times.

  9. Proficient in vital sign skills, assessment and documentation.

  10. Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Utilizes body mechanics and assistive devises and/or supportive personnel to move patients with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing in excess of 25 pounds.

  2. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine, bending legs at knees to come to rest on knees and extended hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction are movements which may be required in carrying out job responsibilities.

  3. Must be able to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.

  4. On feet most of shift, mobilizes patients and may position equipment.

  5. Finger and hand dexterity to handle and manipulate instruments and equipment.

  6. Visual and aural acuity to detect changes in patient's condition.

EDUCATION:

Certified Hyperbaric Tech (CHT) credentials preferred.

Candidates with the following licensures or certifications in their state of practice, or with a national certification, are eligible to hold the hyperbaric technician position: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT, Basic), Registered Respiratory Tech (RRT), Registered Nurse (RN).

Minimum of one year of clinical hyperbaric systems operation is preferred. Qualification as a U.S. Navy Deep Sea Diving Medical Technician or Special Operations Technician will be considered as equivalent.

Must attend a UHMS approved 40 hour hyperbaric course (in person or online) within the first 3 months of employment.

Hyperbaric Certification is preferred within 3 years of employment. A mandatory minimum of 480 HBO clinical hours is required to be qualified for CHT exam eligibility.

Must attend an approved Safety Director hyperbaric training course within 6 months of hire.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.

MINIMUM - MAXIMUM COMPENSATION PAY RANGE:

$24.25 - $38.80
