K-6 World Language (Spanish) Teacher
(This position is in one school with a dedicated world-language classroom. There is no traveling between buildings or classrooms.)
Position Purpose
To develop students' proficiency in the Spanish language and an appreciation for Spanish-speaking cultures by implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; developing lesson plans; modeling linguistic and cultural competency; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
Essential Functions
- Develops and administers a world language curriculum consistent with New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) and district goals.
- Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences (e.g., through Total Physical Response (TPR), songs, games, and storytelling) to maximize instructional time.
- Teaches foundational Spanish skills including listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with a primary focus on communicative proficiency and cultural awareness.
- Provides instruction that helps pupils develop an understanding of the diverse cultures, traditions, and geographies of the Spanish-speaking world.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student skills and modifies instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, or English Language Learners (ELL).
- Uses standard and teacher-prepared instructional aids, including authentic cultural texts, audio-visual materials, and interactive technology.
- Evaluates each pupil's linguistic growth and prepares progress reports; maintains a system for accurate record-keeping and grading.
- Ensures student conduct conforms to school standards and maintains a functional, inclusive learning atmosphere.
- Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication regarding student progress in language acquisition.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge of current developments in World Language pedagogy and Second Language Acquisition (SLA) research.
- Coordinates with grade-level teams and specialists to integrate Spanish instruction with other subject areas (e.g., Social Studies or Music).

Certification/License
New Jersey State Certification/Endorsement as a Teacher of Spanish
Experience
Successful prior teaching experience at the elementary level is a plus.
Compensation
Compensation is in accordance with the agreement between the Board of Education and the Oradell Education Association. The salary range for SY 26-27 is $58,500 - $108,175.
