Position Description
The Seattle Fire Department is seeking a regular, full-time Workforce Development Advisor to join the Human Resources Division. This role will develop programs to support employment pathways from outreach to hire to promotion in alignment with the Seattle Fire Department's workforce equity plan; provide strategic thinking on employee career development activities, succession planning, and recruitment; and evaluate existing programs related to selection and career development, proposing policy and/or updates to procedures.
The position will operate out of Seattle Fire Department's Headquarters in the Pioneer Square area.
Job Responsibilities
Talent Pipeline Development: Engage with internal and external stakeholders to develop outreach and community engagement programs in alignment with the SFDs targeted recruitment philosophy. Identify and develop relationships within communities and organizations identified for targeted outreach. Analyze and track existing pre-hire activities and entry-level preparation programs, providing recommendations on new and existing programs to the Fire Chief and Department Leadership Team.
Professional and Career Development: Serve as SFD subject matter expert on workforce planning and development. Engage with various Department committees, Training Division staff, and managers throughout the Department to identify professional development needs and opportunities for both uniformed and civilian staff. Make recommendations on new programs and changes to existing programs to the Fire Chief and Department Leadership Team. Assist in developing formal succession plans and mentorship programs within the Department.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Develop analytics and benchmarking to guide workforce planning. Forecast staffing needs, perform gap analysis and gather, analyze and report data. Analyze selection and employment data to identify and mitigate barriers to equitable hiring. Research and use data to track program impacts presenting and reporting outcomes to internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education: BA in business administration, organizational psychology, human resources, or another related discipline, or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience: Two years or more of progressively responsible experience in workforce planning, career coaching & development, or closely related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
