Overview:
UnityPoint Health is seeking a Workers’ Compensation Coordinator to support team members following work-related injuries or illnesses. This role partners with employees to navigate medical treatment, modified duties, and the workers’ compensation process, ensuring a team member–centered experience and quality care. The Workers' Compensation Coordinator handles coverage for UPH's Sioux City, Fort Dodge, and Waterloo markets.
Hours: Monday-Friday, standard business hours
Location: Applicants must reside in Iowa, Illinois, or Wisconsin

Responsibilities:
Claim Management
- Works in collaboration with work comp vendor, team member health, leaders and team members to effectively and efficiently coordinate and manage all care related to work injuries to support the best outcome for the team member.
- Subject matter expert to support system wide workmen’s compensation program and promotion of healthy, safe work environment.
- Participates in system-wide initiatives impacting workmen’s compensation and safety program.
- Responsible for the overall performance of workers’ compensation administration for UPH team members. This includes monitoring the performance of the workers’ compensation third party administrator (TPA)/insurance, excess insurance carrier, nurse case managers, and attorney.
- Manages all modified and alternative duty assignments and is a liaison to the department’s management.
- Provides information to the injured worker regarding workers’ compensation rights and responsibilities.
- Evaluates proposed financial reserve adjustments and subrogation requests
- Works in partnership with TPA/insurance company and attorney to resolve represented and litigated workers’ compensation claims to provide the best outcome for UPH.
- Oversees systems for review and processing of workers’ compensation bills.
- Directs payment for missed time related to the work injury in conjunction with the Payroll Department and the TPA/insurance company.
- Coordinates collection of UnityPoint Health records and meetings with witnesses upon request of TPA/insurance company and/or attorney.
- Serves as a resource to providers, team members and leaders to improve efficiency and reduce redundancies in safety and workman’s compensation issues.
- Develop communication tools to disseminate and update management, team members and the organization on safety and workmen’s compensation matters.
- Identify and/or investigate suspected cases of improper utilization of the workmen’s compensation program with appropriate resources.
Data Administration
- Remains current in knowledge of OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
- Coordinates annual posting of OSHA summaries as specified by OSHA.
- Accurately maintains OSHA logs and summaries according to OSHA recordkeeping standards.
- Provides injury data upon request to Bureau of Labor Statistics and other regulatory agencies.
- Maintain team member-related risk management database and tools; including gathering and analyzing statistics and trends to identify emerging risks and opportunities
- Continuously improves current work processes to drive efficiency, quality, and lower cost.
- Follows all internal policies and processes, enterprise risk management domains, HIPAA, applicable accreditation standards, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
Safety
- Notifies key personnel of safety hazards identified in the worker’s incident report which require immediate action.
- Coordinates projects and programs to improve the health and safety of team members
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Nursing or other related field) required
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing preferred
Experience:
- Two (2) years leadership, project management, or workers’ compensation required.
- Employee/Occupational Health or Infection Prevention experience preferred.
- Project/Program Management experience preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- IA Registered Nurse preferred.
- IL Registered Nurse preferred.
- WI Registered Nurse preferred.
