JOB TITLE: WSU/ WPS Clinical Professor
REPORTS TO: Chief of Staff/ Administrative Director of College and Career Readiness
LOCATION: Worcester State University, Worcester, Massachusetts
CONTEXT:
Worcester State University (WSU) in conjunction with the Worcester Public Schools (WPS) is seeking applications for an Elementary Clinical Professor for the 2026 to 2028 academic school years. Under this agreement, a WPS teacher is released from her or his responsibilities for a renewable one year period and works as a Clinical Professor in the Education Department at the University. The successful candidate remains under the auspices of the WPS contract, with all the same benefits and requirements and adhere the WPS calendar.
As a Clinical Professor, the individual is considered a full time faculty member of the Education Department. She or he supervises student teachers, conducts student teaching seminars, co-ordinates professional development day activities, including substitute teaching and pre-practicum assignments in our Professional Development Schools (PDS). The PDS schools that form this partnership are Belmont Community, Quinsigamond, Canterbury, Columbus Park, May Street, Midland, Worcester Dual Language, Tatnuck Magnet, and Woodland Academy for our elementary schools and Sullivan Middle School, Forest Grove Middle School, South High and North High School.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The position of Clinical Professorship works under the direction of the school principals along with District Leadership and with the Education Department Chair from Worcester State College toward the fulfillment of the goals of the Worcester State College/WPS Collaborative. In general, the individual oversees professional development activities for Worcester Public School teachers, the on-site activities of students from Worcester State College and the involvement of teachers in teacher preparation and professional development. Additionally, the individuals will support the WPS Future Educators Academy, as needed and appropriate.
The position fulfills a key role in the development and implementation of a comprehensive teacher education program with fellow practitioners and Worcester State College faculty, in concert with other members of the Collaborative formed by Worcester State College and the Worcester Public Schools
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise student interns at WPS school sites
Coordinates with WPS to support WPS students enrolled in the WPS Future Educators Academy.
Conduct weekly student teaching seminars.
Attend department meetings (once a month) at Worcester State College.
Attend department curriculum committee meetings (once a month) at Worcester State College.
6.Maintain 3 office hours per week at Worcester State College.*
7.Advise and register students during the fall and spring pre-registration period.*
8.Coordinate the pre-practicum students at all school sites and schedule and conduct orientation sessions
Attend WPS school staff meetings/ Professional Development to ensure consistency of practices and expectations
Function as the contact person between Worcester State College and the cooperating teachers and administration as well as District Administration
Create and maintain strong relationships with the Worcester Public Schools to ensure orientation and reflection sessions with students
Coordinates with WPS to support WPS students enrolled in the WPS Future Educators Academy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
WORK YEAR: Unit A/B schedule (185 days) with opportunities for flex time based on need
SALARY: As consistent with Unit A/B salary scale
