EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associates Degree
Two years of progressively responsible experience in network design, configuration and management (minimum of two years of experience in wireless, network design and administration)
Experience with site survey tools such as Ekahau
Experience in network configuration including switch configuration, VLANs, ACLs, IP scopes,wireless access points, channel control, and VPN, and[DA3.1] secure tunnels
CERTIFICATION:
Current CWNA or CCNA with Wireless or similar industry certification to be achieved within one year of hiring
High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY:
Responsible for the design, maintenance, securing, troubleshooting and support of wireless technology across District locations to ensure continuous operation to minimize downtime. Conducts site surveys to determine optimal design and access point placement. Coordinates with Construction Management to determine the best practices design of new and renovated facilities. Responsible for equipment procurement, staging, and configuration of the equipment.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans, forecasts and identifies resource requirements for the wireless technology networks and equipment.
Leads and performs the coordination, engineering/design, planning, and execution (implementation) of the technical aspects of the District's wireless network.
Evaluates, designs, and implements current best practice security solutions for the District's wireless systems.
Implements wireless technology at each site, ensuring staging and proper configuration of equipment.
Conducts site surveys as part of the discovery process to determine optimal radio frequency for deployment of wireless technology.
Provides a pre-and-post implementation wireless infrastructure survey to ensure validation of the equipment locations.
Oversees the procurement of the wireless equipment.
Conducts vendor evaluations and ensures compliance with service level agreements.
Researches, recommends, and performs equipment, software, and firmware updates.
Creates documentation of technical standards and reports of performance.
Monitors the system; performs tuning and makes recommendations for improvement.
Monitors logs to diagnose delivery errors, error codes, and disruption issues.
Maintains all equipment for records audit as per the guidelines of Bond and E rate programs.
Mentors and provides regular wireless technology training for other Technology Services team members - specifically Technology Support and Network Technicians.
Researches, advises and recommends changes or new technologies to the Director of Network Technology.
Contacts vendors for server, hardware, and software support.
Provides a point of escalation and support to the Technology Services Divisions for wireless technologies.
Participates in off-hours maintenance activities as required.
Must meaningfully participate as the wireless systems expert for the District in the event of a cybersecurity incident or exercise.
Advises on procedures and policies as it pertains to wireless technologies.
Participates in disaster recovery planning, testing, and response as it pertains to wireless technologies.
Maintains confidentiality of all information.
Occasionally required to drive District and personal vehicles in the performance of assigned tasks.
Reports to work on time every day.
Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Ability to operate under periodic levels of stress (crisis situations). The employee is occasionally required to drive District and personal vehicles in the performance of assigned tasks.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The employee is occasionally required to work in a confined space. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
