Description

Instructional staff are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, including 20-24 contact hours of teaching and additional on-campus welding support hours while the College is open-typically Monday through Friday, though schedules may include daytime, evening, or weekend hours. These responsibilities include assisting the welding department head with lab and classroom needs in addition to promoting student success. In certain program areas and during peak periods, such as advising and registration, faculty may be required to work beyond the minimum on-campus hours. Dedicated to student success, faculty support the college's mission by fostering learning both inside and outside the classroom through high-quality instruction, academic support, and informed advising.

Example of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Providing appropriate and effective instruction.

  • Teaching classes per the College's teaching load and formula in combinations including day, evening, weekend, off-campus and online as the College requires.

  • Providing relevant learning opportunities that promote student engagement and retention.

  • Staying current in their field and in teaching methodology.

  • Creating meaningful assessments and evaluating student work according to departmental standards.

  • Marinating accurate student records, including course attendance to enhance retention and success.

  • Being available to students during office or lab hours for assistance.

  • Providing regular grade updates through Moodle gradebook

  • Providing accurate, informed advising.

  • Maintaining accessible office or lab hours.

  • Understanding College policies and procedures, degree requirements, and transfer agreements.

  • Providing students with current information regarding career opportunities, as appropriate.

  • Being informed about college services and support for students.

  • Supports extracurricular activities by attendance and/or advisory role.

  • Manage inventory control including purchasing materials, supplies, equipment and tools.

  • Recruiting students, including participation in open houses, College events, and recruitment fairs.

  • Engaging in continuous improvement efforts.

Typical Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Required:

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in Welding
  • Applicants are expected to demonstrate skills needed to communicate Welding

Theory i.e. MIG, TIG, STICK

  • Current North Carolina driver's license
  • Provide instruction that fulfills the requirements of the regulatory and/or accrediting agency.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships within an education setting; plan, organize, and implement programs and services; and provide tracking and assessment to ensure quality, required.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral).

Preferred:

  • Post-secondary teaching experience, preferably in a community college environment.
  • Industry Recognized Credentials (CWI, CWE)
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague and advising and registering students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and students.
  • Knowledgeable in all aspects of the student experience to include coaching, mentoring, advising, student/career services, and progression, preferred.
  • Understanding and commitment to the mission and principles of community colleges.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff and students as well as other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commitment to using data to support informed decision-making processes.
