Job Title: Welcome Desk Associate

Location: The Stark Museum of Art

Reports to: Operations Coordinator

Supervises: 0 Direct and 0 Indirect;

Classification: Non-Exempt

Salary Level: Hourly - $14.00/hr.

Category: Part Time

Job Summary: The Welcome Desk Associate sets the tone for the visitor's experience at the museum, providing a friendly greeting, an introduction to the museum environment, and essential information. Answers the main phone and provides general information along with a variety of other clerical duties to support museum operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meet & greet visitors in a pleasant and professional manner, delivering exceptional customer service, with a responsive attitude toward the visitor experience.
  • Provide a brief and friendly orientation and introduction to museum. Direct visitor to self-guided program materials to enhance their visit as needed.
  • Assist guests with information, questions, and issues effectively.
  • Answer main phone courteously and provide general information about the museum. Transfer and redirect calls to staff as needed.
  • Manage the Stark Museum of Art general information email account and forward to other staff as needed.
  • Collect and compile visitor demographic data.
  • Check in Volunteers and update Volunteer hours.
  • Assist with group tour orientation, as needed.
  • Assist with visitor services tasks and other operational museum tasks as assigned.
  • Remain informed on the Stark Museum of Art's Collection, Special Exhibits, and Upcoming Events.

  7. Follow safe work procedures; ensure that others follow safe work procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions; see that all equipment is maintained and functioning properly.
  8. Maintains proficiency in all computer related programs to perform job duties.
  9. Observe scheduled work hours.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Certificate or Associate's Degree in office administration or related program beneficial.

Experience: General office experience. Prior experience in customer service and guest reception preferred.

Interpersonal Skills: Excellent oral communication skills, comfort with meeting visitors. Must be able to communicate comfortably and effectively with a diverse range of people. Requires superior customer relations skills, ability to display tact and discretion, consistent demonstration of good judgment, and an ability to listen and learn. Ability to interact professionally and appropriately with visitors, customers, co-workers, vendors and others.

Other Skills and Knowledge:

  • Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet
  • Telephone and office etiquette skills
  • Use of common office equipment

Work Schedule: 32 hours bi-weekly, 9am - 5pm, Wednesday - Saturday, with occasional evening hours for special events. The Welcome Desk Associate works at least 2 Saturdays each month.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly seated at a computer. Ability to see, hear and communicate with customers. Ability to stand, lift and carry 10-20 pounds short distances; bend, stoop and reach overhead to organize and store supplies and equipment.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will normally work in climate controlled environment. May occasionally work outside for special events.
