Description

In this position, youll play a vital role in ensuring the local community has in-field customer response while also ensuring they have utility meters that work appropriately and provide accurate data for a seamless billing process.

The Public Utilities Departments Water Service Technician is a full-time position with benefits and a preferred starting rate of $19.54 - $21.00 per hour (equivalent to $40,643 - $43,680 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidates qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for the Water Service Technician Senior classification may be considered at that level.

As a Water Service Technician, youll:

  • Perform customer service, investigations, inspections, preventive maintenance, and repair maintenance for Public Utilities work orders;
  • Locate and read meters;
  • Respond to work order assignments, resolve customer complaints, perform investigations to troubleshoot account management issues, and maintain records and files including documenting all field activities;
  • Assist with construction activities by providing investigation of availability and initialization of service;
  • Inspect plumbing and utilities for leaks, pressure issues, and cross-connections;
  • Perform preventive maintenance and testing of all meter types and registers.
  • As needed, be on-call for off-hours emergency response, participate in a rotating, non-working hours, stand-by program, and perform snow and ice removal.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and minimal experience involving the operation and maintenance of water systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
