ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direct supervision of the Utilities Superintendent and within the City of Sterlings policies/procedures and quality standards, the Wastewater Operator I performs the following essential functions and responsibilities: (Essential functions are those functions that the individual who holds the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.) 1. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. 2. Provides security of facility area; 3. Inputs maintenance work records on personal computer; performs sampling and testing on land and biosolids; 4. Makes operating process changes based upon routine tests and gauge and meter readings; operates and calibrates plant process controls, Ultra-violet light disinfection system, sludge de-watering/thickening equipment and polymer systems, reclaim water treatment facility, and chlorine and sulfur dioxide system; 5. Assists in wastewater lab analyses as required or, may be required to complete lab techniques and records results of same; 6. Inspects plant and related facilities; starts and stops pumps; regulates valves and observes flow dials; reads gauges and records information shown; 7. Performs a variety of documentation activities, inputs maintenance work records; records relating to inventory, maintenance, construction, and inspections, equipment records for services and maintenance; 8. Operates a computer utilizing such software programs as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; 9. Utilizes appropriate department-issued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when necessary, following all applicable safety rules and regulations. 10. Carries a City- issued communication device issued by the department for work-related communications while in Logan County. 11. Performs other related functions as otherwise assigned, delegated or required by the Utilities Superintendent. SUPERVISION OF OTHERS: Has no responsibility for supervision. Physical Requirements: 1. Physical requirements include ability to extend hands(s) and arm(s) in any direction; pick, pinch, work with fingers and palm as well as whole hand; lift fifty (50) pounds; some lifting and carrying objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds; some pushing, pulling, and climbing; move about on foot to accomplish tasks; push/pull, lift, move, draw/drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion for extended p2. Physical mobility sufficient to carry on the inspection of the operation of equipment, infrastructure repairs and maintenance at various work sites. 3. Cognitive ability sufficient to perform and understand and apply simple to complex mathematical concepts. 4. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard devices requiring repetitive arm/hand movements. 5. Visual acuity sufficient to perform work which deals largely with preparing/reviewing reports and records, driving vehicles and for visual inspection which may involve small parts/defects in equipment. 6. Hearing acuity sufficient to receive, comprehend and understand detailed information through oral communications, telephone conversations, radio traffic, etc., and to make fine discriminations in sounds in order to perform duties safely. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work requires occasional contact with dust, noise, poor lighting, hot and cold temperature extremes, fire, odors over which no control can be exercised, or erratic humans; hazards are moderate requiring care and use of proper safety equipment and procedures to prevent inj MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: 1. May attend evening meetings and work extra hours; 2. May serve on special City task forces; 3. Subject to 24-hour call back for emergency conditions; 4. May work non-standard hours such as evenings, weekends and holidays; 5. Cross trained in other functional areas to assist in special projects as needed or assigned; 6. May assist in special projects as needed or otherwise delegated. WAGE: $24.29/hr. DAYS/HRS.:3. ubject to 24-hour call back for emergency conditions; 4. Experience: One (1) years at a wastewater treatment plant as a maintenance worker or operation trainee preferred; Training/Certifications: Certification as Class D Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator within one year of appointment. Special Requirements: Possess and maintain an appropriate CO operators license with appropriate endorsements for the type of City owned vehicle which the employee may operate in the scope of employment.
