WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Swamping on a combination truck
Assist with cleaning the wastewater collection system
Set up traffic control
Participate in the inspection, maintenance, and operation of a variety of heavy construction and maintenance equipment
Weed abatement on the earthen channel
Catch basin, culvert, and storm drain cleaning
Required to be available for on-call duty and work in wet weather conditions
Perform a variety of maintenance tasks and operate various motorized and mechanized equipment incidental to the duties of maintaining an effective wastewater system for the City.
Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed
Participate in maintenance for wastewater collection, storm water, and flood control facilities;
Open and close wastewater lines when necessary
Assist with operating and maintaining line inspection and video equipment to survey, open, and repair lines
Perform concrete and other repairs
Remove debris and clean catch basins, beaches, and ditches
Post traffic control signs in the work area when flooding occurs.
Assist plant operations staff to bypass operations and cleaning operations in wells, traps, lines, etc., as needed
Other related duties as assigned
PAYROLL/CLASSIFICATION TITLE:
Utilities Field Technician
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This classification is distinguished from the Utilities Field Technician, Senior in that it performs semi-skilled work in obtaining and recording meter readings and providing routine customer service.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives close supervision and specific direction regarding assignments and deadlines.
WORK SCHEDULE:
The normal work week is Monday through Thursday, 6:30 am to 4:00 pm, and alternating Fridays, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. Depending on the work assignment, staff may be assigned to a shift that is outside the standard work hours. In addition, this position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. Employees may be required to work rotational stand-by assignments outside of normal working hours and report to work on a callback basis, as needed, within a designated response time. Standby assignments are at the discretion of the Division Head.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work may involve exposure to environments requiring the use of respiratory protection and personal protective equipment (PPE). Employees must be able to properly wear and utilize required PPE, meet respiratory fit-testing requirements, and pass periodic medical evaluations in accordance with applicable safety regulations. Employees will be required to be fit-ready during emergency situations.
