Job Summary
Responsible for safe, efficient processing of each waste stream throughout CAMC. This shall include processing Infectious Medical Waste for incineration or boxing Infectious Medical Waste for shipment. Other duties include transporting solid waste either in lidded carts or transporting 12.0-ton compactor via truck, as well as equipment maintenance and maintenance of hospital grounds and exterior facilities. Individuals in the position are cross trained to function as incinerator operators, CDL drivers, recyclers, and general waste technicians. Employees may access secure medication supply areas to complete assigned job duties.
Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and clean equipment used in the management and treatment of infectious medical waste.
- Sort recycling material into the appropriate categories and process recycled waste through a paper shredder, heavy duty paper/cardboard baler, and trash compactor.
- Drive large 18-26-foot transport truck and ten-wheel truck with roll off container with standard transmission. Must have Class D driver's License with hazardous materials (hazmat) endorsement and complete the CAMC Defensive Drivers Training course. (If applicants do not have Hazmat endorsement, it will be required within 30 days of employment. Employees may drive Recycle trucks or trucks to move furniture, but will not be able to operate the truck that hauls Infectious Medical Waste)
- Assist with preventive maintenance on the incinerator, baler, paper shredder, transport trucks, grounds keeping equipment, tools, and material.
- Check all meters and gauges, record all information, give timely and appropriate estimate of materials needed to perform duties.
- Clean and disinfect trash carts, trash collection room, and maintain interior and exterior facilities in a safe and functional condition. When working in the sorting area, machines (shredder, baler, conveyor) and the floor of the work area are to be cleaned as well prior to the end of the employee shift.
- Remove litter from grounds and parking areas.
- Maintain the lawns, shrubs, and plants in a neat and attractive condition.
- Report problems in operating the incinerator to minimize pollutant emissions and assure compliance with the EPA Clean Air Act amendment.
- Maintain acceptable ash quality and monitor through sampling.
- Maintain daily records and logs in accordance with state and federal regulations and perform inspections to identify problems.
- Assist with moving furniture and equipment throughout the Health System as required.
