Primary Purpose:

Perform daily activities of warehouse to ensure safe and efficient storage and transportation of classroom furniture.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Valid Texas driver's license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of furniture moving and transportation

Knowledge of strapping and safely securing furniture for transportation

Ability to operate hand tools and mechanical equipment Ability to operate personal computer

Ability to communicate effectively

Experience:

Some experience in warehouse operations

Background in material handling and stock control

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Track furniture requests and deliver furniture to the proper destinations
  • Move various items manually and by operating mechanical equipment, including fork lift, pallet jack, and handcart.
  • Load and unload delivery truck by hand or with pallet jack.
  • Assume responsibility for all furniture maintenance, adjustments, occasional wood repair, leg height adjustments and other classroom related furniture tasks.
  • Evaluate complaints received on classroom furniture and supplies and take appropriate action.
  • Supervise warehousing and storage of all supplies, equipment, surplus classroom furniture and equipment, certain school records, and consumable materials.
  • Communicate with teaching staff regarding furniture needs and accommodate them in a timely and friendly manner.
  • Develop and recommend procedures for orderly replacement of existing equipment as it becomes obsolete or deteriorates.

Safety

  • Maintain safe moving and transporting practices.
  • Initiate and maintain proper safety equipment within warehouse as prescribed by law and school policy.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

Equipment Used:

Computer, ladder, dolly, scaffolding, fork lift, pallet jack, box knife, and small hand tools.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Moderate walking, standing, and/or climbing; heavy lifting and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside; work around machinery with moving parts; work around moving objects or vehicles; exposure to dampness and humidity; work on ladders and scaffolding; exposure to slippery and uneven surfaces.
