Job Description: Warehouse/Supply Chain Operations Manager
Company Overview: Established in California in 2013, Green Water and Power has rapidly grown to operate in over 30 states, positioning itself as a leader in the sustainable energy sector. Named the #1 electric vehicle (EV) installer in America, we take pride in having deployed more than 13,000 EV chargers and completed approximately 5 megawatts (MW) of solar energy projects.
As an EVITP (Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program) certified turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm, we leverage our in-house expertise to efficiently manage and execute large-scale projects. Our dedication to sustainability and quality extends beyond project completion; we also provide comprehensive operation and maintenance services to ensure optimal performance for the projects we develop, as well as for third-party installations.
Key Responsibilities:
Warehouse Operations & Organization
- Facility Organization: Design, implement, and continuously refine a scalable, clearly labeled warehouse layout, including shelving, zoning, and storage strategy that supports fast, accurate retrieval and adapts as the company expands into new markets.
- Daily Operations: Own end-to-end day-to-day warehouse operations, including receiving, put-away, storage, picking, packing, and shipping, ensuring throughput keeps pace with demand across multiple active job sites.
- Facility Maintenance: Direct maintenance, repairs, and capital improvements to warehouse equipment, machinery, and infrastructure, prioritizing investments that improve safety, efficiency, and capacity.
- Multi-Site Scalability: Develop standardized operating procedures and layout templates that can be replicated as GWP opens new warehouse or staging locations in additional states.
Inventory Management & Tracking
- Inventory Systems: Evaluate, select, and lead implementation of a formal inventory/warehouse management system (WMS), integrating it with ERP and field operations to deliver real-time visibility into stock levels, locations, consumption rates, and reorder points.
- Inventory Control: Design and enforce inventory control policy (min/max levels, cycle counts, reconciliation schedules) that maintains accurate records and minimizes shrinkage, excess stock, and stockouts.
- Auditing: Lead regular physical cycle counts and full inventory audits, driving root-cause analysis and corrective action on discrepancies.
- Industry Benchmarking: Proactively research and benchmark inventory and warehouse practices used by established suppliers and distributors and translate best practices into GWP specific process improvements.
- Demand Forecasting: Collaborate with Construction and finance to forecast material needs against the project pipeline, reducing rush orders and carrying costs.
Asset Management
- Asset Tracking: Architect and maintain an asset tracking system (e.g., barcoding, asset tags, or RFID) for tools, equipment, vehicle-related materials, and other company assets housed in or issued from the warehouse.
- Lifecycle Management: Own the full asset lifecycle: assignment, condition, maintenance scheduling, and depreciation. Make data driven repair, replacement, or disposal recommendations to leadership.
- Accountability: Establish and enforce check-out/check-in procedures for tools and equipment issued to field crews, ensuring accountability and minimizing loss.
Procurement & Supplier Management
- Sourcing: Identify and qualify suppliers for EV and solar parts, components, tools, and materials, balancing quality, cost, and reliability.
- Supplier Relationships: Build and manage strategic supplier relationships, negotiating pricing, lead times, and contract terms that strengthen GWP's competitive position.
- Performance Monitoring: Track supplier performance and delivery reliability via scorecards, resolving issues proactively to avoid project delays.
- Demand Planning: Align procurement cycles with project schedules through close collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Cost Optimization: Identify and execute cost-saving initiatives including bulk purchasing, long-term agreements, and consignment arrangements with measurable impact on the bottom line.
- Contract & Risk Management: Negotiate and manage supplier contracts and service-level agreements, mitigating supply chain risk for critical EV and solar components.
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Team Management: Build, lead, and develop a high-performing warehouse and procurement team, setting clear expectations, providing training and coaching, and holding the team accountable to performance standards.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Serve as the primary liaison between warehouse/procurement and construction, operations, engineering, and finance teams, aligning activities with project and companywide goals.
- Communication: Proactively communicate status, risks, obstacles, and resource needs to senior leadership, presenting data-backed recommendations that inform business decisions before issues impact deadlines.
- Talent Development: Mentor team members and build succession depth, developing the operation's next generation of leaders as GWP scales.
Safety & Compliance
- Safety Standards: Ensure the warehouse operates in full compliance with OSHA and other applicable safety standards, including proper use of equipment such as forklifts.
- Training: Support and help coordinate required safety training (e.g., forklift, scissor lift) for warehouse and field personnel.
- Compliance Ownership: Maintain audit-ready safety and compliance documentation, serving as the warehouse's point of contact for internal and external safety reviews.
Reporting, Metrics & Continuous Improvement
- Reporting: Deliver regular, executive-ready reporting on inventory levels, asset status, procurement metrics, and warehouse performance for management review.
- KPIs: Own key performance indicators such as inventory accuracy, order fulfillment time, and supplier on-time delivery, using them to drive accountability across the team.
- Process Improvement: Apply data analysis and continuous improvement methodologies to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, implementing process changes that scale with company growth.
- Technology Roadmap: Evaluate emerging WMS, ERP, and asset-tracking technologies, building the business case for future investment as GWP's footprint grows.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree is a plus.
- Experience: 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in warehouse management, inventory control, asset management, or procurement, including direct ownership of a WMS/ERP selection or implementation, ideally within construction, EPC, electrical contracting, or the energy sector.
- Systems Proficiency: Demonstrated success selecting, implementing, and administering inventory/warehouse management (WMS/ERP) and asset tracking tools (e.g., barcoding/RFID), with working knowledge of data/BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) a plus.
- Organizational Skills: Proven ability to design and scale organized, efficient warehouse layouts and processes across multiple sites, with rigorous attention to detail.
- Leadership: Track record building, developing, and holding accountable warehouse and/or procurement teams, with the judgment to plan proactively, set priorities, and lead under pressure.
- Negotiation & Cost Management: Demonstrated success negotiating high-value supplier contracts and terms, with a quantifiable track record of cost optimization.
- Communication: Polished verbal and written communication skills, with experience presenting metrics, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (particularly Excel) and procurement/ERP systems.
- Certifications: APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM, CSCP, or CLTD), Lean/Six Sigma, and/or OSHA 10/30 and forklift certification preferred; willingness to obtain relevant certifications within a defined timeframe if not already held.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand/walk for extended periods, and safely operate warehouse equipment as needed.
Benefits:
- Competitive salary, DOE ($100,000 - $125,000) commensurate with experience leading complex warehouse and supply chain operations.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits package.
- Retirement savings plan.
- Paid training and safety certifications.
