The Department of Family Medicine at the UI Health Care Walk In Clinics is seeking a 60% (24 hours a week) Weekend Option (WEO) Physician Assistant (PA) to support our Iowa City (Corridor) and Quad Cities Urgent Care/QuickCare Clinic locations. The Physician Assistant performs direct patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic services. Within the Physician Assistant (PA)/Physician relationship, the PA will exercise autonomy in medical decision making and services provided. The PA will also assist in educating healthcare students, as they rotate through the respective departments and divisions and will assist in research endeavors as appropriate.
UI Health Care Walk-in Clinics provide care to try to save our patients a trip to the emergency room. We're open evenings, weekends, and even some holidays. Our clinics are responsible for assessing a wide variety of patients from newborn to geriatric and ensuring patient care standards are met. The Walk In Clinics provide access to additional care options not normally found at your traditional walk-in clinic, including X-rays, IV fluids, and stitches. This position is part of a dynamic and fast paced environment, rich with opportunities for learning and growth. We utilize a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that encourages teamwork between multiple disciplinary teams to provide the most comprehensive care to our patients. We have several locations throughout the Iowa City/Corridor and Quad Cities so that our patients are able to find a convenient location near them. This position reports to the Medical Director and Lead APP within UI Health Care Walk In Clinics.
This position will support both Iowa City/Corridor sites as well as Quad Cities clinical sites.
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

This position reports to the Medical Director within the UI Community Clinics and Lead APP within UI Health Care Walk In Clinics.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide medical care and management for patients, exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided in the Walk-In Clinics, will rotate to different Walk-in Clinics, and also utilize online telehealth platforms.
Obtain medical history and perform physical examination.
Assess, assist, diagnose and treat medical or surgical problems and record findings.
Perform or assist in and interpret the performance of laboratory and related studies.
Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, the suturing and care of wounds, removal of foreign bodies, ear and eye irrigation and other clinical procedures.
Assist in arranging for continued care such as but not limited to: transfer to the Emergency Treatment Center; follow-up care or establishment of care with a primary care provider; and/or follow-up consultations (including referrals to appropriate specialty and subspecialty physicians as indicated by patients' problems).
Perform and screen results of special medical exams including but not limited to electrocardiogram, radiography, audiometric and vision screening, tonometry, and pulmonary function screening tests.
Instruct and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health on matters such as diets, disease, therapy, and normal growth and development.
Evaluate, treat, and institute procedures essential to providing an appropriate response to urgent medical problems.
Maintain awareness of health facilities, agencies, and resources in order to facilitate the appropriate referral of patients.
Order medications and administer drugs.
Direct other medical personnel and health professionals in the execution of patient care.
Perform duties appropriate to a physician's practice.
Participate in educating health care students in various programs.
Participate in committees within the division, department, College of Medicine and University of Iowa Health Care.
Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
Perform all other duties as assigned on a permanent or temporary basis

Salary: $52,579.20 - $94,977 (based on years of experience)
EDUCATION REQUIRED
Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and certification by the NCCPA.
