VP Medical Practice - Women and Children's

$250,000- $450,000 / Annual *based on full time (80 hours/ppd or 1.0 FTE)

Overview

The VP Med Practice – Women and Children programs is a senior provider leader with system-level accountability for clinical quality, safety, high value patient experience, operational performance, and strategic execution across an assigned area.

This role partners in a dyad/triad model with administrative and operational leaders to define vision, strategic direction, and ensure consistent execution of system priorities, standards, and best practices.

The VP Med Practice leads complex change initiatives, advances value-based care, supports financial stewardship, and develops physician and advanced practice providers (APPs) to achieve organizational goals. The VP Med Practice demonstrates a strong commitment to patient-centered, equitable care and fosters an inclusive, ethical, and psychologically safe environment for patients, families and staff. This role reports to the SVP, Specialty Practice.

This leadership role will be 1.0 FTE (.5 Leadership/.5 Clinical).  The Clinical component could be as an MD/DO or APP within a Women and Children’s specialty.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for quality, safety, clinical operational efficiency, and use of system best practices within area of responsibility
• Lead development, implementation and adoption of evidence-based clinical protocols and best practices
• Partner with medical and operational leaders to ensure programs appropriately implement care standards, strategic priorities, regulatory and quality goals
• Provide clinical leadership for Electronic Medical Record (Epic) optimization including order sets, workflows, policies, and reporting
• Participate in quality and safety meetings and medical staff committees, as appropriate
• Lead efforts to establish and achieve goals aligned to the five system-wide performance dimension metrics: Quality & Safety, Efficiency, Staff Engagement, Patient Experience, and Research & Education
• Partner with quality and patient safety for event investigation and RCA action plan development and implementation
• Review Compass reports for area of responsibility and determine follow up steps
• Promote a culture of safety by ensuring environments are physically and emotionally safe for staff and patients, and by encouraging reporting of concerns or potential risks without fear of retaliation
• Ensure care delivery models prioritize patient/customer needs, preferences, and experiences
• Advance equitable care by addressing cultural, linguistic, and accessibility needs across diverse patient populations
• Promote practices that reduce disparities and remove barriers to care and communication
• Ensure teams adapt care approaches based on age, language, health literacy, and other patient-specific factors
• Foster a culture of engagement, accountability, and high performance
• Promote a respectful, inclusive work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment
• Recruit, develop, and retain physicians and APPs
• Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to provider leaders
• Actively participate in the identification and resolution of issues raised by staff
• Ensure effective communication of organizational priorities, initiatives, and expectations
• Recognize and address communication barriers and ensure appropriate resources are used to support understanding
• Maintain knowledge of provider compensation models and escalation processes
• Fairview: Responsible for provider personnel performance and employee relations. Set performance standards, review performance, provide coaching, feedback and recognition on job performance on an ongoing and timely basis
• UMP: Participate in provider clinical performance evaluation, provide coaching, feedback and recognition on clinical performance on an ongoing and timely basis
• Partner with operational leadership to develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and resource allocation
• Drive improvement in patient flow, staffing models, productivity, and revenue cycle performance
• Identify and implement initiatives to improve financial and operational performance
• Lead strategic growth initiatives aligned with system priorities, including technology and capital investments
• Collaborate with supply chain and operational teams to optimize resource utilization
• Report all medical direction time using the application Time Study in compliance with CMS requirements, if required
• Lead and support process improvement initiatives that enhance patient experience, operational effectiveness, and care outcomes
• UMP: Create physician services schedule (PSS) and interact with academic department to ensure awareness and compliance
• Serve as liaison with academic partners to align clinical care, research, and education priorities

Required Qualifications

• MD/DO with completion of residency in approved AMA specialty (if a physician) or APP
• 5 yrs of leadership experience in related specialty practice including project management, collaborative decision-making, knowledge of healthcare, and process skills. Experience leading physicians, APPs, and/or multi-disciplinary teams to achieve desired outcomes
• 5 yrs experience in clinical practice with demonstrated success in quality, clinical variation, practice management, and patient experience
• Physician: Threshold criteria for credentialing and privileges met
• Physician: Board certified by appropriate specialty board
• Physician: Active, non-restricted Minnesota Physician Medical License (or ability to obtain)
• Physician: Ability to meet criteria/qualifications for Credentialing
• APP: Active Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN) License and Minnesota Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) licenses as approved by the Minnesota Board of Nursing) or Minnesota Licensed Physician Assistant as approved by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice
• APP: Certification from a nationally approved APRN certification body relevant to area of clinical practice or Certification by the National Commission for the Certification of PAs (NCCPA)
• APP: Granted or eligible for DEA Registration
