A day in the life
You start with a thorough pre-trip: checking fluids, tires, lights, and the mixer’s bins and augers. You verify calibration settings, load aggregate, sand, cement, water, and any admixtures, then roll to the job site. On arrival, you assess the site for safe positioning, set up the truck, and dial in the mix design and target slump. As the pour begins, you monitor consistency, make precise adjustments, and communicate with the customer to ensure the mix meets expectations. After the job, you complete tickets and logs, wash down the truck, chutes, and mixer, and secure everything before heading to the next stop. A quick post-trip inspection wraps the day.
What you’ll handle
Drive and operate a volumetric concrete mixer safely to batch and deliver concrete on-site according to customer requirements.
Calibrate and run the mixer to achieve the specified mix design, yield, and consistency.
Load materials (aggregate, sand, cement, water, admixtures) accurately and safely.
Evaluate job sites for safe, efficient setup and truck positioning.
Follow all safety procedures, use required PPE, and handle materials safely.
Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections and basic preventive maintenance on truck and mixer components.
Troubleshoot and resolve equipment or mix-related issues as they arise.
Interact professionally with customers, answer questions, and address on-site concerns.
Complete delivery tickets, maintain logs, and record material usage with accuracy.
Verify slump and overall mix quality prior to discharge; adjust water as needed and notify quality control if the mix is too wet.
Clean the truck, mixer, and chutes after each load; secure chutes properly.
