VMware Cloud Architect / Consultant - San Francisco, CA - $80/hr

Overview:

We're seeking an experienced VMware Cloud Architect / Consultant to lead enterprise cloud transformation initiatives across private, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments.

This role combines strategic consulting, enterprise architecture, and hands-on VMware expertise to design, modernize, and optimize large-scale infrastructure platforms. The ideal candidate brings deep experience with VMware Cloud Foundation, hybrid cloud architectures, automation, disaster recovery, and enterprise-scale migrations.

You'll work closely with executive stakeholders, infrastructure teams, and engineering organizations to develop roadmaps, define target-state architectures, and lead complex cloud modernization programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead infrastructure assessments and define enterprise cloud and software-defined data center strategies.

Design high-level and low-level architecture solutions for VMware platforms.

Develop cloud migration roadmaps, business cases, and transformation strategies.

Architect private, hybrid, and multi-cloud solutions across VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure, and GCP.

Design highly available and resilient infrastructure solutions supporting enterprise workloads.

Establish security architectures including micro-segmentation, zero-trust, and network segmentation strategies.

Lead proof-of-concepts, pilots, cloud migrations, and modernization initiatives.

Develop automation frameworks using PowerCLI and Infrastructure as Code methodologies.

Implement disaster recovery, business continuity, backup, and recovery strategies.

Define operational standards, lifecycle management, observability, monitoring, and capacity planning processes.

Support executive presentations, architecture reviews, and technical strategy discussions.

Collaborate with network, security, storage, platform, DevOps, and operations teams.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.

10+ years of enterprise infrastructure, cloud architecture, or VMware consulting experience.

Expert-level VMware vSphere/ESXi and vCenter experience.

Strong experience with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF).

Experience with vSAN, NSX-T, and Aria/vRealize Suite.

Experience with Site Recovery Manager (SRM) and HCX.

Experience with VMware Lifecycle Manager.

Hybrid cloud architecture experience.

VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure, and/or GCP experience.

Strong understanding of network overlays, security controls, and cloud networking.

Experience developing HLDs, LLDs, migration plans, and architecture documentation.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

VMware certifications such as VCP-DCV, VCAP, or VCF Specialist.

Tanzu and Kubernetes experience.

PowerCLI expertise.

Terraform, Ansible, or Python automation experience.

DevOps and Infrastructure as Code experience.

Experience supporting regulated environments such as SOX, PCI, FFIEC, or HIPAA.

Pre-sales, solution consulting, or enterprise advisory experience.
