NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).
Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. Qualifications:
BA/BS Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Landscape Architecture, or a related field with minimum additional experience of 20 year(s) in graphic design, production and mapping
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Proficiency using ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or similar platforms for mapping, analysis, and data visualization. Proven ability to design clear maps, graphics, and visual products for staff, partners, and the public. Effective at collaborating and communicating with multiple partners through various means (in-person, online, etc.) to gather information and deliver products that meet project needs.
- Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook, Adobe Acrobat
- Proficiency using ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or similar platforms for mapping, analysis, and data visualization; Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
Duties:
Provides technical skills in graphic design and mapping for both digital and print media, supporting technical assistance planning projects for the National Park Service Rivers, Trails & Conservation Assistance program in the Pacific West and on occasion throughout the program nationally. Develops effective scopes of work for each project supported and tracks milestones to achieve outcomes. Works collaboratively across numerous project managers balancing workloads and managing time and investments per budget. Coordinates work through the supervisory outdoor recreation planner in consultation with program manager to assist in setting priorities and to facilitate budget management.
- Document development, layout, and design. Working with RTCA project managers and community partners, designs and prepares a variety of publications, products, and materials documenting plan recommendations, illustrating project processes and findings, and/or promoting and publicizing events and activities. Products include, but are not limited to, planning documents, brochures, posters, flyers, exhibits, infographics, and other print and digital media and publications. 50%
- Mapping / GIS. Designs and develops a variety of maps for print and digital media to illustrate site conditions, inventory resources, analyze opportunities and constraints, and communicate preferred planning concepts and alternatives in support of project planning, development, and final recommendations. Collaborates with RTCA project managers and community partners to prepare web-based content to develop ArcGIS StoryMaps showcasing project conditions and concepts in an interactive and engaging manner. 25%
- Provides general guidance and support with graphic design and materials to communicate with public and professional audiences in support of project outcomes (e.g. visual design and communication strategies, final editing / product review, etc.). Ensures print and digital materials comply with accessibility requirements (Section 508 Compliance). 25%
