Market Hall Café and Shop

Our popular café and gift shop serve a wide range of customers, from tourists and families to local residents.

The Market Hall Café offers both eat-in and takeaway options, serving Monsoon Estates coffee, speciality Golden Monkey teas, and a range of refreshing cold drinks, alongside a selection of cakes, sandwiches, paninis, and more.

The adjacent Market Hall Shop sells a varied range of products, including local beekeeper's honey, fossils and toys, gifts and greeting cards, and souvenirs.

The Role

Working within the Visitor Services team, this role mainly covers our busy café. During opening hours, you will be preparing food and drink, serving customers, and promoting our offers, including our best-selling cream teas.

Daily tasks will include opening the Museum and café for the day ahead, setting up indoor and outdoor café areas, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, receiving and checking deliveries, and ensuring all café records are kept accurate and up to date. At the end of the day this role will also assist with closing.

Occasionally, you'll also cover our gift shop. You'll feel confident chatting with visitors on the shop floor, helping them find what they're looking for and recommending products, rather than relying on till-based interactions alone.

Working Pattern

This is a part time role working to a set 4-week rolling work pattern.

Wk 2 - Tues 09:00-17:10. Wed, Thurs & Sat 09:30-17:10

Wk 4 - Wed, Thurs, Fri 09:30-17:10. Saturday 11:00-16:00

The Candidate

This role is well suited to someone who is confident working within a team and independently, with a practical, flexible approach. You will enjoy speaking to customers and delivering excellent customer service. We're looking for someone who has experience working in a customer service environment. Good levels of numeracy and literacy are essential to this role.
