The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full time, 9-month appointment for one-year appointment at an Open Rank Visiting Lecturer to begin August 10, 2026. The department seeks to hire a generalist in Chemistry. Specifically, the department seeks an individual with a specialization in any area of chemistry with knowledge and experience teaching in at least two of the department's undergraduate degree concentrations: analytical, inorganic, organic, chemical biology, and physical chemistry. Graduate teaching is a possibility, depending on the Visiting Lecturer's areas of specialty and department need.
In addition, the successful candidate will be teaching a workload of three undergraduate lecture sections per Spring and Fall Semester, which may include coordinating student assistants, and participation in department service. All Visiting Lecturers are reviewed annually. Workload is determined by the Department Chair and University policies.
To apply, please access the University of New Mexico's online application system at https://www.unm.edu/jobs and apply for posting requisition #36423. Only applications submitted through this website can be considered. Applicants should pay extra attention to the "Special Instructions to Applicants," which detail all of the required elements that must accompany the application. A complete application consists of a cover letter describing the applicant's qualifications as they relate to the minimum and preferred criteria (e.g. teaching ability, commitment to success of diverse students, etc.), a current curriculum vita (please include email address and telephone number), and a one-page teaching statement. Applicants who are appointed to a UNM faculty position are required to provide an official certification of successful completion of all degree requirements prior to their initial employment with UNM.
For best consideration, all required application materials must be received by 06/15/2026. We will only consider complete applications. The position will remain open until filled.
