Job Summary

The School of Arts & Sciences seeks a dynamic candidate for a temporary, non-tenure-track faculty position in Environmental Science with strong experience in the geosciences. This is an academic year 10-month contract. The contract is expected to begin August 1, 2026.

Responsibilities

1 -

  • Develop and teach a variety of courses in geology and environmental science, ranging from general education courses to upper-division courses in the Environmental Science major.

2 -

  • Maintain on-campus office hours; prepare lesson plans, syllabi (including course objectives), lectures, and other course materials such as quizzes and exams; and submit final grades and attendance reports on time.

3 -

Engagement in professional development, service, and scholarship activities.

4 -

  • Travel to fulfill instructional or other duties, including to the Brunswick Campus or the Camden Center location.

5 -

  • Maintain a commitment to high-impact educational practices and student success.

6 -

  • Other related duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Environmental Science / Geology or a closely-related geoscience discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate level credits in environmental science and/or geology.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Commitment to highly effective and engaging science education.
  • Commitment to implementing experiential learning and high-impact educational practices in the classroom and lab.

Required Experience

  • Successful teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience

  • Expertise or strong background in geology.
  • Experience with geographic information systems, R, python, and instructional technologies (e.g., augmented reality / VR).
  • Experience with in-person and online/hybrid instruction.
  • Recent experience teaching college-level courses in geology / environmental science
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate research especially through Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs).
  • Experience developing and implementing innovative pedagogy.
