SUMMARY:
The Department of Literature and Languages at East Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, temporary, non-tenure-track Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2026. The appointment is for one academic year and may be renewed for an additional year based on program needs and performance.
This position will support the PhD program (Rhetoric and Composition emphasis) and the undergraduate Writing Program. The department includes doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate programs in English, Hispanic Studies, and Applied Linguistics.
The department anticipates conducting a search for a tenure-track English faculty position during the following academic year. The candidate appointed to this visiting position is welcome to apply should a search be authorized and conducted.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Visiting Assistant Professor will:
· Teach three courses per semester (3–3 load) in a combination of undergraduate and graduate courses, such as Advanced Writing (Nonfiction), Professional & Technical Communication, and Writing Studies Methods.
· Contribute to curriculum development and assessment efforts
· Participate in public events, outreach activities, and co-curricular programming
· Maintain regular office hours and participate in departmental and program meetings
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· Ph.D. completed by August 2026 in Rhetoric and Composition, English, Writing Studies, or a closely related field.
· Evidence of successful college-level teaching experience in rhetoric and composition/writing studies or related area.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/ SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
· Experience teaching advanced writing and rhetoric courses.
· Evidence of a productive research agenda in rhetoric and composition/writing studies.
