Description Benefits Position Overview The Department of Biology at the University of the South seeks applications for a 1-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Molecular Biology & Genetics to begin August 2026. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment with benefits.

Position Appointment Details: Faculty Visiting Assistant Professor Non-tenure-track Position Description The Visiting Assistant Professor will teach a total of six (6) teaching units across the fall and spring semesters; a laboratory section counts as one teaching unit. The teaching load will include Genetics and one additional course in the candidate's area of specialization.

The Sewanee Biology Department offers three tracks in Biology-Molecular Biology & Genetics, Integrative Biology, and Ecology & Biodiversity-and also supports the Biochemistry and Neuroscience majors. The department serves a strong population of majors, including a thriving pre-health preparation program, and makes extensive use of the university's natural areas in teaching.

Although research is not an expectation of this position, the University provides limited support for research activities and travel to professional conferences.

Attributes of a Successful Candidate Strong candidates will demonstrate thoughtful, inclusive, and engaging approaches to undergraduate education, along with relevant teaching experience in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related disciplines.
