Position Overview
Primary Purpose of the Position
Faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy in the School of Health Sciences at Winston-Salem State University invite applications for a 12-month, visiting Assistant or Associate Professor of Physical Therapy faculty position beginning August 1, 2026. The ideal person will have Generalist skills in physical therapy and be able to teach content in one or more of the following areas: Pediatrics, Lifespan, Pharmacology, Physiology, and assist in laboratory courses. The person may also have an opportunity to assist in clinical education. We seek an exceptional candidate whose primary role will be to teach graduate courses, serve as a faculty mentor in pro-bono clinics, serve as a faculty advisor, and mentor students. The person may have an opportunity to produce scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals within the discipline, present at professional conferences, engage in procuring extramural funds with interdisciplinary teams, participate in departmental, school, and university service, and engage in service to the professional discipline and the larger Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, NC community.

Department Required Skills
We seek candidates who demonstrate excellence in teaching, use generalist skills in physical therapy, and have current expertise in one or more of the following areas: assisting in laboratory courses, Pediatrics, Lifespan, Pharmacology, and/or Physiology. The person may also have an opportunity to assist in clinical education. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching physical therapy and an ability to leverage various technologies to engage students in the learning process. We desire candidates who demonstrate experience mentoring graduate students in research experiences or engaging students in study abroad or community service learning, where they must leverage their content knowledge to benefit the larger community. We seek candidates who demonstrate the ability to participate in interdisciplinary teaching and research collaborations with professional colleagues at the university, across universities, or within the broader public. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to their professional growth and development through engagement with professional organizations and conferences.
Applicants must hold a degree in physical therapy and be licensed or eligible to practice in North Carolina. The selected candidate must obtain a license to practice physical therapy in the State of North Carolina by August 1, 2026. Additionally, candidates who do not hold a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree must have an academic doctoral degree (PhD) or another academic terminal degree (e.g., Ed.D., D.Sc., DHSc) in physical therapy or a related field. Candidates with "ABD" status will be considered. If the person selected for employment has "ABD" status, they must earn the doctorate by August 1, 2026.
